PART A – Plan Micro Project Proposal

MULTIPLEXERS
1.0 Brief Introduction:
In electronics, a multiplexer (or mux; spelled sometimes as multiplexor), also known as
a data selector,
is a device that selects between several analog or digital input signals and forwards the
selected input to a single output line.
The selection is directed by a separate set of digital inputs known as select lines.
2.0 Aim of the Micro-Project:
1. To make us understand how multiplexer works.
2. Knowing the advantages and disadvantages of multiplexers.
3. Learning how to make logic diagram, block diagram and kmap for the multiplexers.
4. Making the diagrams of multiplexers.

PART B – Plan Micro Project Report

MULTIPLEXERS

1.0 Brief Description

A multiplexer requires a demultiplexer to complete the process, i.e. to
separate multiplex signals carried by the single shared medium or device.
Often an multiplexer and a demultiplexer are combined into a single device
(also often just called a multiplexer) allowing the device to process
both incoming and outgoing signals.

1.1 Logic Diagram:

1.2 Block Diagram :

1.3 Truth Table :

1.4 K Map :

1.5 ADVANTAGES OF MULTIPLEXERS:

1] It reduces ckt complexity and cost.
2] We can implement many combinations logic ckts using multiplexer.
3] It does not need K-maps and simplification.
4] We can implement many combination circuits using MUX.

5] It does not need Kmaps and Kmaps and simplication.

1.6 DISADVANTAGE OF MULTIPLEXERS:

1] Added delays in switching ports. 2] Limitations on which ports can be used

simultaneously.

3] Added firmware complexity to handle switching ports. 4] Added delays in I/O signals

propagating through the multiplexer.

5] Extra I/Oports required to control the multiplexer.

2.0 Aim of the Micro-Project

5. To make us understand how multiplexer works.
6. Knowing the advantages and disadvantages of multiplexers.
7. Learning how to make logic diagram, block diagram and kmap for the multiplexers.
8. Making the diagrams of multiplexers.
