 Brief Overview on ‘New Electives’

‘New electives are implemented by the Ministry of Education to widen the choice spectrum
from the Technical to Express levels in all Secondary Schools.’

Economics

Economics is a calculative-based subject for students who are interested in

- Learning the world’s monetary status.

- How money works.
- How the world is controlled by the economy.

Students are highly recommended to this subject alongside Principles of Accounts (POA)
and Additional Mathematics (AM), if they have passion in Mathematics.

General Criteria:
- At least 50% overall for Secondary 2 Mathematics

Computing

Computing is a subject that mainly focuses on coding. Students who like coding or has
passion and aptitude for it will be recommended this subject based on the Secondary 2’s
elective module workshops.

General Criteria:
- Took the coding module during Secondary 2 elective module.

Music

In the past years, music is only allocated to the N(T) and O level students. N(A) music is new
as it focuses on legitimate curriculum-based music teaching instead of a practice-based
curriculum that the N(T) and O level students adhere to.

Main Overview:

- Music-making
- Music theory
- Listening component

General Criteria:
- At least 50% for Secondary 2 music.
- At least 50% for Secondary 2 english.
