Teenage Concerns

Identity Crisis
- According to Erik Erikson, a psychologist, identity crisis is the failure to
achieve one’s identity during adolescence.
- Complexities and array of options make identity crisis more common
- Identity formation is more likely to develop a caring and loving family
environment while encouraging the teen to form responsible and
independent opinions
- Stable Family structure that gives support and guidance can allow teens
the flexibility and acceptance to flourish as they develop their own sense of
identity.
- It is important that they feel loved and accepted as they move through their
adolescence stage

Sexual Behaviors, Attitudes, and Practices


- Sadism – tendency of a person to gain pleasure from inflicting pain,
suffering, or humiliation on others
- Exhibitionist – sexual perversion which involves indecent sexual
practices so as to attract attention to oneself. Unusual behavior of the
individual may become a major part of his/her life if not addressed early and
properly
- Heterosexuality – sexual attraction to the opposite sex. Heterosexual’s
sexual practices are subject to laws in different places. Those whose religion
has a strong influence on social policy, marriage laws serve the purpose
of encouraging people to have sex only within marriage. Laws also ban
adults from committing sexual abuse, committing sexual acts with anyone
under an age of consent, among others.
- Homosexuality – sexual attraction to the same sex. People with a
homosexual orientation can express their sexuality in a variety of ways
- Nonconformity to typical gender roles has inhibited many boys and girls
from openly expressing their same-sex attraction. Teen needs most from the
family and friends are their love, acceptance and support.
- Premarital Sex – any sexual activity with an opposite sex partner or with
a same sex partner before he or she starts a married life. Having sex at
an early age, teens also expose themselves to the risk of sexually
transmitted diseases in addition to an unwanted pregnancy. Teenagers
must be trained to mingle with the opposite sex in a mature and responsible
way.
- Teenage Pregnancies – Health risk associated to teenage mothers are
dangers of young reproductive organs not ready for birth, poor nutrition
during pregnancy, and maternal death due to high risk of eclampsia, among
others
- Reasons for teenage pregnancy include: Unplanned sexual encounters, peer
pressure, lack of information on safe sex, breakdown of family life and lack
of good female role models in the family, and absence of accessible,
adolescent-friendly clinics.
- Family Health Survey of the National Statistics Office reports that women
who became mothers in their teenage years were less likely to finish their
education. Teen pregnancy also contributes to a country’s high population
growth rate and a high percentage of young people needing more resources
on health, education, and food.
- Abortion – Intentional termination of pregnancy after conception. Allows
women to put an end to their pregnancies. Unintended pregnancy is one
of the main causes of abortion
- Article 256-259 of the Revised Penal Code, whether you are the woman
getting the abortion, the abortionist, or someone assisting or encouraging
the abortion, you could get in jail for 1 month to 20 years if you commit
the act on purpose
