This is the new Microsoft Office UI that has been around free
for months with the lovely Mica translucency.
Unlock now
But for some reason, in my class this morning, I noticed

that Microsoft 365 reverted to its old UI without Mica
translucency.
I logged out and I restarted my Surface Pro 8 (with

Windows 11 22H2), and it still doesn't have the Mica

translucency UI even though I have the translucency

enabled for Windows 11 as shown in my taskbar.
Can someone please tell me why the translucency went

away? I really like the Mica translucency in Microsoft Office.
Is it a bug? How can I fix this?

I’m Daniel and I will be happy to help you with

your question, I am a Microsoft consumer like you.
From both images, I see your system setting uses

this as well.
Try this
Open Word > go to File > Options > General >

Office Theme > select use system setting.
I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary

to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer
more of your questions.

I changed the Theme to "Use system setting" and

restarted my Surface, but the translucent UI didn't
come back. I'm on my university campus, but I
have a desktop computer running Windows 11
22H2 at home with Microsoft 365 as well, so when
I get home tonight, I'll need to update you if the
same issue persists.
But in the meantime, has Microsoft announced any

issue with the Mica UI on Microsoft 365 apps
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), has anyone else
had a similar issue, or is this just a temporary bug?

Hello, I tried disabling the new look and then re-

enabling it and then I tried restarting my Surface
Pro. Then it still doesn't have the Mica
translucency. Do you think this is just a temporary
bug and the Mica translucency will return soon?

In Windows Setting's - under Personalization >

colors > Transparency effects, is Transparency
turned on?
That should be all you need to do - not the Theme

setting or new experience.

Do you have coming soon turned on? Click the

megaphone icon beside your account
name/picture - then turn on coming soon.
Do you have the same Office subscription on both

computers? It's only available on subscriptions and
only in windows 11... and you need coming soon
on.

I have "Try the new experience" enabled. I have the

same subscription on both computers. And I have
Windows 11 22H2. That's why I was concerned. I
really miss the Mica translucent UI on my Surface
Pro. I hope Microsoft can do something about this
and make sure it's back and that it never has to go
away, even temporarily. The Mica UI still hasn't
returned.

It's possible it is something specific to your

computer.
I have Version 22H2 (OS Build 22623.1180) and it is

working here. I have the insider builds for both
office and windows - I thought mica was available
for all users now.
