Military Visa
Application
For members of a visiting force (including its civilian component)
or crew members of any craft transporting such people.

Information about military visa applications

A military visa facilitates the movement of members of a visiting force (including members of the civilian component
of the visiting force) as defined in the Visiting Forces Act 2004, or crew members of any craft transporting the visiting
force to New Zealand, who are in New Zealand at the request or with consent of the Government of New Zealand.
If you are a member of a visiting force (including a member of its civilian component), or a crew member transporting
such people to New Zealand, you do not need a visa to travel to New Zealand, but you are required to hold a military
visa while in New Zealand. If you arrive in New Zealand on a military craft you will be deemed to hold this visa. If you
arrive at an airport on a commercial craft you will apply for and may be granted this visa at the border or you may apply
for a military visa prior to travel to New Zealand to facilitate your entry.
Your partner or other family members cannot apply on this application form. They must lodge separate applications for
the type of visa they need.
Application requirements
You must provide evidence that you will be in New Zealand at the request or with the consent of the Government of
New Zealand. This evidence may include but is not limited to original or certified copies of:
• a military movement order, or
• joining instruction for a course run by the New Zealand Defence Force, or
• other evidence provided by the New Zealand Defence Force.
How much does a military visa cost?
A military visa is free of charge.
