Job Search Expectations

• Internship and Job Opportunities: Most opportunities will come through off-campus
recruiting efforts. VC firms will often post jobs on Career Account, but very few host
corporate presentations and other functions on campus.

• Networking is critical: Much of the legwork for landing a position in a VC firm will be
through networking, so get out there and network. Attending applicable alumni, student
club, and professional association events and meeting professionals in the industry is the
most important factor for obtaining a position.

• Most firms look for a combination of strong technical finance skills coupled with a
passion for entrepreneurship: The nature of the VC industry lends itself towards
understanding the funding needs of start-up companies while also being able to identify
potential targets in high-growth industries.
