- You have been provided with three solutions of one carbohydrate. The concentrations are
as follows:

S1 is 1 mol dm-3; 52 is 0.5 mol dm-3; and 53 is 0.01 mol dm-3. Determine the effects of
these solutions on strips of the plarit material K1 provided.
Proceed as follows:

' Label four Petri dishes from 1 to 4. Half-fill each dish with one of the solutions as
shown in the table belLw, then replace the lids.

diagram below). with a sharp scalpel cut the piece of KI longitudinally into two.

Repeat this procedure with two further 3 cm lengths of K1 , so obtaining twelve
strips in all.

strips are under the surface of the solutions rather than floating'on the surface.
