Resume Relations Cooperation between Africa and Indonesia

The rise of Africa is one of the drivers of the world economy. In the first decade of the 21st
century, 6 of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world were from Africa. This African
development has received special attention in the implementation of Indonesia's economic diplomacy
in recent years. Countries in Africa are non-traditional market targets for Indonesia in developing
trade and investment. As one of the concrete forms of this effort is the opening of diplomatic relations
with African countries. Currently, Indonesia has diplomatic relations with 50 of 54 African countries.
(Republica, 2013).

However, until now Indonesia is slightly behind many countries in the Asian region which
have established special cooperation forums with countries in Africa as a vehicle for strengthening
partnerships. For example, the People's Republic of China (PRC) has already had a special
cooperation forum, namely the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) since 2000. India has
also formed a cooperation forum, namely the India-Africa Forum Summit in 2008. The India-Africa
trade is seven times larger than the Indonesia-Africa trade. Our neighboring country, Malaysia, even
has a Malaysia-Africa Business Forum which is part of the Langkawi International Dialogue.

Learning from the experiences of other countries, Indonesia should also consider establishing
the Indonesia-Africa Economic Cooperation Forum (FKEIA). It is hoped that the forum will be able
to provide a more comprehensive direction for Indonesia's foreign policy towards Africa, strengthen
the existing framework for bilateral cooperation and the NAASP (New Asia Africa Strategic
Partnership), as well as serve as a means of strengthening coordination for all stakeholders, both from
the government and the world. efforts to encourage economic cooperation between Indonesia and
Africa.
