A historical holiday:

1. Republic Proclamation Day

Commemorates the end of the Empire of Brazil and the proclamation of the Brazilian
Republic on November 15, 1889.
The Proclamation of the Republic was a military coup d'état that established the First
Brazilian Republic on 15 November 1889. It overthrew the constitutional monarchy of
the Empire of Brazil and ended the reign of Emperor Pedro II.
The coup took place in Rio de Janeiro, then the capital of the Empire, when a group of
military officers of the Imperial Army, led by Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca, staged a
coup d'état without the use of violence, deposing Emperor Pedro II and the President
of the Council of Ministers of the Empire, the Viscount of Ouro Preto.

A provisional government was established that same day, 15 November, with Marshal
Deodoro da Fonseca as President of the Republic and head of the interim Government.
2. Tiradentes' Day
Anniversary of the death of Tiradentes (1792), considered the national martyr for
being part of the Inconfidência Mineira, an insurgent movement that aimed to
establish an independent Brazilian republic.
Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, known as Tiradentes, was a leading member of the
colonial Brazilian revolutionary movement known as Inconfidência Mineira, whose aim
was full independence from Portuguese colonial power and creation of a Brazilian
republic.
When the separatists' plot was uncovered by authorities, Tiradentes was arrested,
tried and publicly hanged.

Since the advent of the Brazilian Republic, Tiradentes has been considered a national
hero of Brazil and patron of the Military Police.
