Follow a step by step process to create a simple box plot.

Below is a collected data for the heights of a group in grade six students.

Step one:
Order the numbers from least to greatest.

54,56,56,60,60,61,65,68,68

Step two:
Create a number line and plot all the values of the data set on the number line.

Step three:
Find the median (2nd quartile) for the above data set. Then mark the median above the number
line.

Find the 1st quartile (lower quartile). And then mark it above the number line.

Step five:
Find the 3rd quartile (upper quartile). And then mark it above the number line.

Step six:
Complete the box by connecting the top and bottom of the lines. Now you have a full box.
Step seven:
Finally, plot the minimum and the maximum values from the data set and connect them to the
box to form the whiskers.
