Social media and communication

Nowadays, everyone uses social media to communicate with their friends and meet with new
people. But, what exactly are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this?

There are a number of benefits to social media. In the first place it helps keep in touch with people.
For example, you can maintain friendships despite no face-to-face contact. In addition, you can
make new friendships online. For instance, you find people with similar hobbies and interests.

On the other hand, social media has some negatives. To begin with, it’s easy to become addicted.
For example, you spend hours each day updating your profile or chatting with your friends. Also,
there is always risk of cyberbullying. This is because teens spread rumours about their classmates.

All things considered, even though social media is considered dangerous and time-consuming, I
strongly believe it helps your social skills and keeps you from feeling lonely. As David Alston, a
famous author, once said “Social media is not a media. The key is to listen, engage, and build
relationships.”
