The information contained in this provides a summary of your child’s achievement, attitude, behavior and effort.
Summative reports are provided twice a year at the end of each school semester.

The knowledge, skills, understanding and values that students need to learn are defined as learning area outcomes in the
Western Australian Curriculum Framework.
Achievement in each Learning Area

Limited and Very Low. On your child’s report the shaded box shows the overall learning area achievement.

General Assessment:
Henry demonstrates excellent achievement of what is expected for this year’s level. He represents
the relationship between decimals and unit fractions in various ways, orders them, and locates them
on a number line. Your son solves more complex problems involving addition and subtraction of
fractions with the same denominator. He creates budgets for a purpose, explaining how goals can be
achieved.

General Assessment:
Henry demonstrates excellent achievement of what is expected for this year’s level. He classifies
common and less common substances into the three states of matter based on a set of identifiable
characteristics, and explains the behaviour of these substances. Your son identifies that life produces
problems that scientists try to solve. Explains, making reference to significant historical and cultural
contributions, and provides examples from Science Understanding, such as telescopes advancing
the study of the solar system, justifying planning gardens using native plants. Henry provides specific
suggestions to improve the fairness of the investigation and explains how this ensures a fair test.

General Assessment:
Henry has continued to contribute many detailed and imaginative answers in lessons. He has an
expansive vocabulary which would rival most middle school students. I am encouraging all the grade
5s to keep practicing their tenses, in the second writing exam most students made some grammar
mistakes. Henry could benefit from a little more focus on his exam technique.
