ECOLOGICAL DIMENSION OF GLOBALIZATION

Introduction

This paper aims to explain the Ecological Dimension of Globalization, focusing on the
interconnectedness of globalization and the environment. It will discuss the global
environmental issues and drivers, global environmental organizations, partnerships, and
agreements, the tragedy of the commons, and sustainable development. Therefore, it strives to
provide a comprehensive knowledge of how globalization influences our surroundings, both
positively and negatively, and the role of organizations in preserving our environment and the
world we live in.

Ecological dimension
In the study of geography, the ecological dimension describes the relationship that exists between people
and the natural elements of the environment and the impacts that they have upon one another.

When using the ecological dimension, areas are broken down into what are referred to as ecosystems. 1

Ecological dimensions are how humans interact with their environment and impact on it. (sasabihin
nalang)

Environmental globalization

involves an intensifying, deepening and expansion of global networks

leading to increasing global uniformity and connectedness in regular
environmental management practices. It has so far been neglected, differing
from the environmental outcomes of economic globalization, and from the
rise of global environmental governance. 2

‘The ecological dimension of globalization’ examines the effects of global

alliances on ecological issues.3

II. ECOLOGICAL DIMENSION OF GLOBALIZATION

Introduction

This paper sought to explain the ECOLOGICAL DIMENSION OF GLOBALIZATION primarily the
inrrelatedness of globalization to the environment, the global invironmental issues and its drivers, the
global environmental organzations, partnerships, and agreements as well as the tragedy of the
commons, sustainable development. Therefore, it aims to give an indepth understanfding on how
globalization affects our surroundings and its positive and negative impact, and the role of the
organizaitions to sustain our environment, the world we are living in.

Globalization and the Environment

In this topic, we will be able to know how environment is related to globalization
Environment

-the environment is the natural world in which people, animals and plants live. According to the
Oxford dictionary.

-'environment' means 'surroundings' (environs). Thus, It is the surroundings or conditions in

which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates.

the air, water, and land in or on which people, animals, and plants live.

Ecological dimension
In the study of geography, the ecological dimension explains the relationship between people and natural
elements of the environment, as well as the impacts of that interaction.

Or inother words, Ecological dimensions are how humans interact with their environment and
impact on it. (sasabihin nalang)

Ecological Dimension of Globalization

- examines the effects of global alliances on ecological issues. All of humanity and the planet Earth
are inextricably linked.
- All these problems are global the result of aggregated human action — and require a
coordinated response.

An example of the Ecological Dimension of Globalization is The Industrial Revolution which has
caused many ecological problems, including, resource and food shortages, overpopulation, reduced
biodiversity, pollution, and climate change.

Advantage and Disadvantage of environmental globalization

Effects of Globalization in the Environment

Positive effects

Globalization has the potential to spread the benefits of environmentally friendly technologies and
practices from developed to developing countries. This can help developing countries minimize pollution
by importing more environmentally friendly technologies or adopting better environmental regulations and
standards.

Negative effects
Damages the environment. The transport of goods and people among nations generates greenhouse gas
and all the negative effects it has on the environment. Global travel and trade also can introduce,
sometimes inadvertently, invasive species to foreign ecosystems. Industries such as fishing and logging
tend to go where business is most lucrative or regulations are less strict, which has resulted in overfishing
and deforestation in some parts of the world

Globalization damages the environment. The transportation of products and people between countries
produces greenhouse gases are negative effects on the environment. Moreover, Global travel and trade
can potentially inadvertently bring invasive species to foreign environments.

The indepth discussion of the negative effects of globalization or global environment issues be discussed
on the next topic.

globalization and the environment. We will be discussing

the global environmental issues and drivers,

global environmental organizations, partnerships, and agreements,

as wells as the tragedy of the commons, and the sustainable development.
