PLEXITONE

I have been using this pedal for around 10 yrs and combine it with a boss GE7 for more equalizing, it
needs more mids! The boost is great!

Most authentic Marshall pedal

Verified Purchase

There are several good analog pedals that replicate ( not model) the sound of a high-gain Marshall tube
amp:
The Sansamp GT-2, and Sansamp "British" pedals, as well as the Sansamp PSA 1.1 all do a great job of
that.

The Sansamp PSA 1.1 is best for rack-rigs where midi control and signal-routing flexibility are necessary.
The other two pedals are ideal if you must run with batteries.

If you want PURE ROCKIN MARSHALL TONE, PLUS a great boost feature ( up to 20 dB) then this Carl
Martin Plexitone pedal is the best I've have ever heard in 40 years of professional playing. It has the
TONE and FEEL of my Customized Marshall 100 watt head (circa 1969) that was modified by Jose
Arrendondo in the late 70's.

The CM Plexitone has its own internal power supply, which is absolutely necessary for the massive
headroom you need for authentic Marshal tone. That also means you do NOT need a "wall-wart" to run
it, but it means you must find an outlet for it.

The three footswitches are robust and spaced so my size 12 boots hit the mark without problems. Bright
blue LED lights give instant indication of what's ON. The high-impedance input helps reduce signal loss
from cables. In effect, this acts as a buffered "front-end" for the rest of your chain... and it's a damn
good buffer too.

If you like your basic amp sound, but need a better preamp for the front-end and could use a boost for
solos, this is the pedal to get.

Over the last couple of decades, my friends and I have used various CM products. All of them are great.
They build everything like they care. They are good at what they do and it shows. CM pedals are worth
the extra dough.

Other than lucky auctions, I got the best price on a new one from Prymaxe, a dealer in New Jersey. The
shipping was fast with no problems. Highly recommended.

Great Marshall Sound!! A little bright, but with a little less of Tone (to the pedal) and less treble
(to the Amp) and You got it !!! The dame Sound of Zakk Wilde on Pride & Glory and Bill Steer
on Firebird!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars does exactly what it says on the tin, but not a smidge more

Delivers the basic meat of the classic van halen brown sound better than any pedal or similar
device that I've encountered, (including the stuff than name-checks VH in their product names)
which is what I wanted of it, and so I am very happy with the plexitone. Definitely a well-made
bit of gear, with a very solid feel, HOWEVER, not a sonically diverse pedal by any means: it
basically serves up the marshall plexi overdrive sound it promises, (with not much variation, or
heat, or much room between clean and dirty), and that's it, and so you may find it pricey for what
amounts to one specific overdrive sound. Also, note "overdrive" and definitely not, by modern
standards, in any way a "distortion." the distortion setting seems to add more noise than it does
actual saturation to the signal.

that said, the higher operating voltages (by pedal standards) really pay off and produce an
organic, dare I say tube-y sound.

If you're after a good organic emulation of a 60s marshal plexi, you should be pleased. if you're
looking for anything else, you'll wonder where the money went.

Absolutely the best Plexi type distortion pedal I've ever owned. It's a match made in heaven with a
Pearly Gates, works great with single coils pickups too. I wouldn't recommend it as your only distortion
or overdrive pedal on your board. It's a one trick pony, but excels at what it does.

Overall an amazing sounding pedal with one flaw

I own a number of very different guitars and this pedal makes them all sound fat and sparkly yet
smooth through all kinds of amps with nice presence and tons of sustain. Tone contol is the best
I've used with a single knob. The only down side is the gain control. It needs better ramping up
from low to high gain, yes it is a high gain pedal but having more control from nothing to the
low gain sweet spot and then hitting max just past the high gain sweet spot. I find myself using it
at about 7:30 or 8 o'clock, you'll notice thats very low and there is nothing useful beyond about 1
o'clock for me. I should also mention that I use an EBS compressor into a Tumnus Deluxe and
then I use one of two gain pedals which includes a velvet fuzz and the Plexidrive. Overall I really
do love the sound of this pedal even with a minor short coming.
Excellent pedal! A keeper for me for sure. I run this through a '66 Fender Bassman just like the Pete
Thorn Demo, and all I can say is it does exactly what it's designed to do, fantastic vintage Plexi tones all
the way to Hot rodded JCM 800 territory! It actually has way more gain on tap than I would ever use
since I'm more of a classic rock/Blues guy, but it's nice to have it available if I ever need it. Sounds great
with single coils or humbuckers, best Marshall style pedal I've tried by far and I've tried a lot of them!

Marshall in a box is sometimes over used .. but once in while you really find one ! From clean Plexi to
JCM800 Metal Roar ! Built in 12v transformer runs on 12v just like it's big brother ! Tons of headroom
and very open and natural sounding ! Killer little brick that puts out a wall of sound .

I have been playing guitar a long time, to long actually; this pedal really surprised me. I have some nice
amps however I put this in front of my cheapest amp (Bulgara V5) and I just smile at the tone. I am not a
big pedal guy however I play this one all the time. Worth twice the price I paid

A fantastic sounding pedal! Very amp like, More overdrive than you will ever need but can be dialed
back for just a hint of breakup.

Great sounding plexi pedal. One of my favorites. Chewy, punch, sound. If you're looking for low gain and
flexible eq this is probably not for you. The pedal does one sound, but does it best!

No. 1: Marshall Blues Breaker

Marshall Blues Breaker

That the Marshall Blues Breaker sits at the top of Andy's list might surprise you, but as a trusted
overdrive that's been in his rig since the '90s, it's the one pedal that stands above the rest.

Designed to give the same past-the-breaking-point tone that Eric Clapton achieved by pushing
his Marshall combo on John Mayall's Blues Breakers album, Marshall's pedal has gotten a
second life in recent years thanks to John Mayer's praise of it.

Andy usually maxes out the Volume and then sets his Gain level to his liking. In recent years,
some brands have released their own takes on the Blues Breaker, like JHS' Morning Glory.

Brown sound is not eddies amp tone it was his brothers snare tone, here read for yourself from the man

Your rig lacks the pulsating tube sag and bottom end of a real Marshall Stack. Now I don't care if you
have $100,000 worth of amps and cabs and petals. Just purchase real Marshal JCM 900 MKII 100 watt
tube amp. Hot rod it with 6550's and some caps and other components. Then plug it into Marshall JCM
900 1960A and 1960B full stack and grab a Fender Stratocaster. Then you will know the real sound. I had
such a rig. But after a few years I though it was making me deaf so I sold it. Turns out that I also had and
played a huge Bass rig the Ampeg CLASSIC 300 watt tube amp and 4 cabs (4x10 H and 1 x15E) + (8x10H
and 2 x10H) this ran the amp at 2 Ohms. The Ampeg 15E is what was destroying my hearing because the
big 15" speaker connected to the CLASSIC 300 watt bass amp along with the other 3 Ampeg cabs would
send out a huge low pulse sonic punch right into my ears. They don't make guitar cables long enough for
you to be safe. That rig was causing me to loose my hearing. Sold it as well. Guess what-Biggest mistakes
in my life!!! I have never heard that Hot Rodded Marshall Sound since. Yours is not even close. So for
around $4500 anyone could be in Marshall Heaven
