Research Meaning:
Research is a process to discover new knowledge to find answers to a
question/problem

It is an activity of systematic Investigation / Examine closely, Carefully, to test or


Probe into a Problem & Study of Materials, Sources in order to establish facts and
reach new Conclusions.

The word RESEARCH has two parts RE - Again & SEARCH – Find, look into an
aspect Once Again or look for some New Information about something.
Basic Steps involved in Research Process:
Identify & develop your topic
 Choose a topic within the parameters set by the study
 Choose a topic of personal interest to you and learn more about it
 Choose a topic for which you can find a manageable amount of information
 Be original. & Contemporary
 Cite your Sources properly

Do a preliminary search for information
 Preliminary search to determine whether there is enough information out
there for your needs and to set the context of your research
 Appropriate Keywords for the title chosen
Locate materials
 locating material on your topic
 There are a number of places you can look for information
Evaluate your Sources
 Use the library's electronic periodical databases to find magazine and
newspaper articles.
 Choose the databases and formats best suited to your particular topic
 Quality information
 Factual information

Make notes
 Resources you have chosen and note the information that will be useful in your
research study
 Resources should consist the details of author, title, publisher, URL, and other
information will be needed later when creating a bibliography.
Reporting of your Research Study
 organize the information you have collected
 Preparation of a rough draft (with your ideas & Incorporations)
 Revise the draft

Cite your Sources properly

 it gives proper credit to the authors of the materials used &


 it allows those who are reading your work to duplicate your research and
locate the sources that you have listed as references
 The MLA (Modern Language Association) & the APA (American
Psychological Association.) Styles are two popular citation formats
