Geometry of Molecule
VSEPR & Electron Domain Theory – Part 1

Every molecule has its own geometry. We can predict the geometry of molecule using VSEPR
(Valence Shell Electron Repulsion) theory which is enhanced by Electron Domain theory. Simply,
the geometry of molecules are classified by the number of bonding pair and lone pair in the Lewis
Structure of each molecule.

In order to help you to easily predict and imagine the geometry of molecule, please fill this table
completely. You can use MolView (molview.org) to see the 3D geometry of molecule and think
about the angles made by every atoms inside the molecules.

Conclusion
1. For molecule which has no lone pair around the central atom, the molecular geometry can be
predicted by the number of __________ around the central atom.

2. If we use Electron Domain theory, the number of electron domain is the total number of
_________ and ________ around the central atom.
