Conversion in John
 (John 20:31)

1. What was the person doing when he/she encountered Jesus?

- John wrote his Gospel so that people would "believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." In the
Gospel of John, the verb "believe" appears 98 times. To convey the depth
and activity of faith, John employs a variety of metaphors: believing is like
eating, drinking, seeing, hearing, abiding, coming, entering, receiving, and
obeying. John employs to explain what it means to believe in Jesus as the
Christ.

2. What did Jesus do that changed the person’s way of thinking?

- Jesus changes our purpose. Being a follower of Jesus transforms the
purpose of life into something so fulfilling. We are involved in His Kingdom.
We live in such a way that God is glorified. We're here to help others. We're
making converts. According to John 15:16, we have been called to bear
lasting fruit.

3. What is your reflection on this story?

- The various verbs John uses to describe what it means to believe that Jesus
is the Christ express the radical nature of conversion. Only those who
believe in Jesus as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world"
will have eternal life (life in the age to come) (John 1:29). In other words,
only those who have been converted are granted eternal life.
