ABSTRACT

Finding hostel for a student is a time taking process, even hostels have hard time finding
students quickly. Students have to visit the place to decide the better choice for them and fill
registration form. Well here Hostel finder comes in.

The main goal of the system is to increase quality of education system, it allows student
to find hostels on basis of their location and area. Hostel owners gets to showcase their facilities
and services or types of rooms available at their place.

Student are able to register on portal and can give feedback to improve services. The
major roles in this project are: Student, Hostel/PG owner, and Admin.

CHAPTER 1.
INTRODUCTION.

1.1 Relevance of Project.

Most students want to live in hostels that are close to their campuses, this
system is built to help with that. Hosteller is a system that helps students with the
problem of accommodation, the system will be able to differentiate accredited
hostels from those that are yet to get their license.
It gives hostel owners the opportunity to get people to apply for room
accommodation based on the facilities the hostels offer. This system is to help
with booking rooms in hostels without going to the hostel to do the booking
manually. The features the project will include are hostel registering, booking,
review, prices, location etc.

1.2 Background Study.

There are existing systems that help students find hostels and their
location. These systems consist of features like contact information of the hostel
caretaker, the location of the hostel written under the description of the hostel, etc.

There have been problems with these systems because people or students
tend to not know the facilities available in the hostel, the rooms available for
booking, the reviews from students who live in the hostel and the state of
accreditation of this hostels i.e. to know if they are licensed or not.

The proposed system is going to be better because students (especially the

fresher’s) will be able to get to know the hostels that their location is closest to the
school campus, get to see reviews on the hostel and also know if the hostel has its
license.

1.

1.3 Problem Statement.

There are a lot of drawbacks in locating and booking hostels. The booking
system is sometimes done manually in the sense that the students have to go to the
hostels before they are able to book for rooms. This is hard for international
students because some of them want to book for rooms before arriving so that
they won’t have any problem settling in.

The locating system is rarely seen because the systems being created
expect people to know the whereabouts of this hostels and they exclude the fact
there are foreigners who come to school in Ghana. This existing systems
sometimes contain maps which aid in the direction of this hostels but there are
some hostels that are in bushes and due to that, they can’t be located on google
map.

There is also the problem of not knowing if these hostels are accredited or
not. Some months ago, the Ghana *blahblahblah* came to close down hostels
who do not have their license, therefore the students who had no idea about the
hostels lack of accreditation had no choice but to move out.

1.4 Objectives
The main purpose of this project is to build a system for students to be able to get
and locate hostels of their choice.

1.4.1 Sub-Objectives
 The system, will be able to accomplish the task of booking of rooms and
locating hostels for students who are either foreigners or for students who
want to change hostels.
 The dedicated system will be implemented in different hostels, whereby
hostel owners will be able to show off their hostels and the facilities
available.

2.

1.5 Scope.
The proposed system is a system which will make booking rooms easy,
provides easy access to location of hostels for students and easy access to review
of students living in this hostels. The system will only show hostels located in
Fiapre, Sunyani, Brong-Ahafo region, Ghana.

1.6 Methodology.

The methodology being used in this system is The Scrum Agile

Methodology. The Scrum Agile Methodology encourages products to be built
faster, since each set of goals must be completed within each sprint’s time frame.
It also requires frequent planning and goal setting, which helps the team focus on
the current sprint’s objectives and increase productivity.
This methodology is being used and it is a process for managing a project
that involves constant collaboration with the customer (Supervisor) and working
in iterations that are repeated until all the system requirements have been
implemented.

1.7 Limitations of Study

We are limiting the study of our project to the hostels available in Fiapre,
Sunyani, Brong-Ahafo Region, Ghana.

3.

CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW.

2.1 INTRODUCTION

In this section we are going to analyze the existing system and provide solutions
to errors or build a new system all together.

2.2 EXISTING SYSTEM

There are existing systems such as cybo.com, ghanahostels.org, booking.com, etc.

are based on also helping with finding the hostels and getting to know their location. In
the existing system the reviews of the hostels aren’t available on the sites. The existing
system does not show the facilities available in the hostel which may lead to lack of
interest of the students for the hostel. The existing system does not display if this hostels
have their license or not i.e. if they are accredited or not. These existing systems do not
give a detailed description of the location of the hostel and this makes it hard for people
that are new to the environment to locate this hostels.

2.2.1 DISADVANTAGES OF EXISTING PROJECT

 Lack of proof of accreditation.

 Lack of reviews.
 Location is not being shown.
 Prices are not being shown.

4.

2.2.2 ADVANTAGES OF PROPOSED PROJECT

 Proof of accreditation.
 Availability of reviews.
 Availability of facilities.
 Display of prices.

2.3 PROPOSED SYSTEM

This project is aimed at developing a system for booking and locating hostels.
helps students with the problem of accommodation, the system will be able to
differentiate accredited hostels from those that are yet to get their license. It also gives
hostel owners the opportunity to get people to apply for room accommodation based on
the facilities the hostels offer. The features the project will include are hostel registering,
booking, review, prices, location etc. The added value that the project provides is that it
helps people find hostels near their location and also let them get to see reviews on this
hostels. The proposed system also helps the hostel owners show off the facilities
available in the hostel.
We will begin by writing an algorithm that will show the step by step process in
the development of the project. With the knowledge of HTML and SQL which we
obtained through our course of study. We will build the back-end of the project which is
the programming and database aspects. The front-end of the project which is the user
experience and interface will be done with JavaScript and CSS which we also learnt.
Compilers to be used in developing this project are Visual Studio, NetBeans, SQL.

5.

CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY

3.1 INTRODUCTION
The approach being used to develop the proposed system is The Scrum
Agile Methodology. This methodology is a process for managing a project that
involves constant collaboration with the customer (Supervisor) and working in
iterations which is repeated until all the system requirements have been
implemented.
The Scrum Agile Methodology encourages products to be built faster,
since each set of goals must be completed within each sprint’s time frame. It also
requires frequent planning and goal setting, which helps the scrum team focus on
the current sprint’s objectives and increase productivity.
The appropriateness and suitability of the agile scrum approach for
realizing the proposed system is because it encourages the system to be built
faster, since each set of goals must be completed within each sprint’s time frame.
It helps in discovering ways to respond quickly and accurately to threats and
inevitable change.

3.2 ALGORITHMS.
We will begin by writing an algorithm that will show the step by step
process in the development of the project. With the knowledge of HTML and
SQL which we obtained through our course of study.
We will build the back-end of the project which is the programming and
database aspects. The front-end of the project which is the user experience and
interface will be done with JavaScript and CSS which we also learnt.
