Topic: Etymology of Caste System

Introduction

Definition of Caste System:

Throughout several attempts have been made to define caste system. Yet know uniformly as
at been found out. According to Risely caste is collection of families or group of families
bearing a common name. Claiming a common professing to follow same hereditary calling
and regards a single homogeneous community. C.H. Colley has said that when a class is
somewhat a strictly we may call it caste. Marinale and Monochesi have defined whose share
of obligations and privileges are fixed by British.Santioned and supported by religion usage
thus difficult to have proper and precise definition of caste it can be understand by is features
and characteristics.

Characteristics of Caste system:

In order to properly understanding cast system it is essential but it can an ideas about
its features there are

Stress on birth: - In caste system everything is traced to the birth of the person. A boy enjoys
privileges and genius wise and poor provided he has taken birth in a high caste family role
and status in the society is again linked with his birth this is equal appeals to other caste.

B.R.Ambedkar:

According to his for eradication of caste.it is necessary to break the religion notion on
which caste system lay down he is of the view that caste system is merely division. Of labour
perhaps it also division of labourers equality should be all and though the success shared by
all.1

Mahathma Gandhi :

Gandhi believed that Hindu society in its pristine state during the Vedic times was
based on Varnashrama dharma or Low of Varna and Ashrama. According to Gandhi this was
the society predominant characteristic.
