PEOPLE WHO REALLY WANT TO GO PLACES,
COME TO LOS ANGELES.
With 18 million people, from 140 countries, speaking approximately 86 different languages, Los
Angeles is one of the most diverse cities in the United States. As the world’s 15th largest economy,
L.A. makes an ideal home for more than 300,000 small entrepreneurial businesses, and its vibrant
tech scene has produced several noteworthy success stories. Its reputation as a creative city in
media and entertainment is unparalleled. And L.A.’s strengths also extend to sectors such as
consulting, finance, health care and consumer products. Plus California is where the term “startup”
practically started. In fact, L.A. is now one of the top destinations in the US attracting venture capital
investments, making it the hub of activity in Southern California. UCLA Anderson School of
Management, based in LA, has helped innovators and critical thinkers achieve their dreams, and in
some cases, change business as we know it.
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA LOS
ANGELES (UCLA)
FOR NEARLY 100 YEARS, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA LOS ANGELES (UCLA) HAS BEEN A
PIONEER, PERSEVERING THROUGH IMPOSSIBILITY, TURNING THE FUTILE INTO
THE ATTAINABLE.

We doubt the critics, reject the status quo and see opportunity in status quo. Our campus, faculty
and students are driven by optimism. It is not naïve; it is essential. And it has fueled every
accomplishment, allowing us to redefine what's possible, time after time.

This can-do perspective has brought us 13 Nobel Prizes, 12 Rhodes Scholarships, 12 MacArthur
Fellowships, 10 National Medals of Science, 3 Pulitzer Prizes and more NCAA titles than any
university and more Olympic medals than most nations. Our faculty and alumni helped create the
Internet and pioneered reverse osmosis. And more than 100 companies have been created based on
technology developed at UCLA.

Discovery, creativity and innovation are hallmarks of UCLA. As one of the world's great research
universities, we are committed to ensuring excellence across a wide range of disciplines, professions
and arts while also encouraging investigation across disciplinary boundaries. In so doing, UCLA
advances knowledge, addresses pressing societal needs and creates a university enriched by diverse
perspectives where all individuals can flourish.

WHY UCLA GMP?
The UCLA General Management Program (UCLA GMP) is designed especially for professionals
and entrepreneurs with a busy work schedule, that does not permit them to pursue a full-time
MBA program.

In a fast-paced environment, organizations cannot afford to grant long sabbaticals to Senior

Executives to attend a full-time program. GMP addresses this need by allowing participants to
undergo a formal, part-time management program with minimal disruption of their work and
personal pursuits.

Its coverage of content is extensive and it covers all the advanced management concepts, arguably
the first of its kind in Americas. As depicted, GMP is tailored specifically for experienced
professionals and is quite distinct from full-time and part-time MBA programs.

DISTINGUISHED FACULTY
The mainstay of UCLA Anderson’s high-quality management education programs is its esteemed, international
faculty. Each year, UCLA Anderson faculty members publish papers in leading scholarly journals, receive
recognition for research excellence, provide leadership in and beyond UCLA, and serve as inspirational teachers
and mentors.

FACULTY DIRECTOR

PROF. SANJAY SOOD

Professor of Marketing and
Behavioral Decision Making

Prof. Sanjay Sood is a Professor of Marketing at UCLA Anderson. His academic research focuses on two areas,
brand management and behavioral decision making. He says “The faculty at Anderson are adept at bringing
research into the classroom and I have tried to follow that lead. Academic frameworks in branding can be applied
across industries, and behavioral decision making is becoming increasingly relevant to senior managers and
policymakers.” He believes that incorporating real-world experience can dramatically improve the classroom
experience. That’s why for the last decade he has been teaching his MBA classes with C-suite industry executives
from MGM, P&G and Google, assigning live projects with real companies — like NBC, Universal Studios and the
TED brand — and taking his students on field trips to startups, major corporations and ad agencies.

He helped develop what is now UCLA Anderson’s Center for Management of Enterprise in Media, Entertainment
& Sports. Using psychological principles in his research, He examines how firms can best build, manage and
leverage strong brand names. This includes investigating what brand names mean to consumers, how to manage
brand portfolios, how to use brand naming strategies to launch new products and how to protect brand names
from becoming diluted over time and across geographical boundaries.

In his latest work on decision making he studies the differences between how people make decisions about
products versus how they make decisions about experiences. “Experiences generally make us happier and we’re
willing to pay more for an experience. We define ourselves more based on the experiences that we have in life
rather than on the products that we own.

His research has been published in leading marketing and psychology journals including the Journal of Consumer
Research, Journal of Marketing, and Cognitive Psychology. He is an associate editor at the Journal of Marketing,
and he is on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology and
the Journal of Marketing Research.
