Exercise Scenario 1 and Solution

Investigation disclosed Matthew Anderson as the owner of M.A. Towing, where Greg
Michaels is a suspected employee. Michaels owns A1 Auto and 5 th Street Used Cars and
is also Anderson’s brother in law.
An audit disclosed vehicles towed from Ft Otan by M.A. Towing were charged a standard
fee of $50.00. Storage fees for A1 Auto were also standardized at $50.00 per day.
According to the complaint A1 Auto only permitted M.A. Towing to remove vehicles
from their lot, claiming M.A. Towing was one of the only local businesses that met the
stringent state insurance and OSHA mandates. The complaint alleged an average delay of
2 days before towing could be completed.
However, if the vehicle was assessed as “totaled” A1 Auto would purchase it as salvage
then the “salvaged” vehicle would be repaired and sold at 5th Street Used Cars.
