Jacksonville, Florida: Charles Warren and Releia Warren have sued Landstar Ranger trucking
company and its driver Anthony Lumpkin seeking answers and accountability for the crash that
killed their ten-year-old son Eli and seriously injured Releia Warren.
Truck driver Anthony Lumpkin claims he does not know why he left the roadway. The
investigation has revealed that Mr. Lumpkin was on his cell phone for over 6 hours leading up to
the crash and that he may have been engaged in texting while driving. Investigators also found a
DVD player with a DVD in it in the cab of Mr. Lumpkin’s truck after the crash, but it is still
unclear whether he was watching it while driving. Landstar requires its drivers to have dash
cameras and telematics devices to monitor driving behavior. For unknown reasons, Landstar did
not require Mr. Lumpkin to use those safety devices.
The Warren family wants to know why this crash happened, why Landstar chose not to
monitor Mr. Lumpkin, and how many other Landstar truck drivers are permitted to drive
Landstar tractor trailers without these safety devices and driver monitoring. The Warrens have
retained attorney Joe Fried to represent them. Fried has handled some of the largest truck crash
cases in the country. Fried will be assisted in the case by Truck Accident Law Firm partners Joe
Camerlengo and Gregg Anderson.
Speaking of the Warren family crash, Joe Fried said “Our investigation of Landstar and
its driver will continue until we get answers. I don’t believe the driver at all and the lack of dash
cams and telematics devices to monitor the driver raise all kinds of questions. I predict we will
expose that this happened because the truck driver was distracted using electronic devices while
driving.”
Joe Camerlengo adds, “we will be delving into more details on the cell phone use and
what Landstar knew or should not have known. We will get into their written policies and see if
they match what they are doing in the real world.”
“All children are special, and Eli Warren was particularly special,” according to Fried, “at
age 10, he had already distinguished himself as a talented leader who lead from a place of
genuine love of others. He could make anyone laugh. His birthday was yesterday.
Releia’s condition has been slowly improving but she will likely have serious permanent
limitations as a result of the injuries she sustained.
