I. Let’s Know

What is an “entrepreneur”? According to Investopedia, the term “entrepreneur” was

derived from the French word entreprendre which means “to undertake”. They “undertake” to
take a risk in creating, organizing, and operating the business and also being innovative to the
products and services that they will offer to the market. Entrepreneurship on the other hand,
is the process of establishing what type of business the entrepreneur will be creating or will
be introducing to the market.

Entrepreneurial activities serve as a vital role now in our country most especially in
economic growth. Through these businesses, job opportunities were established and
innovation of the materials and/or products were created.

Whatever happens to the business lies in the decision making of the entrepreneur. The
entrepreneur:
• exercises his capabilities on deciding what’s best for the business. Studying the
business’ pros and cons, identifying the problem, providing a solution and, weighing
and choosing the best option.
• creates job opportunities and new products or services upon establishing a business.
• offers a wide variation of products and services and allows it to be readily available in
society. Thus, the standard living in society will be improved.
• convinces potential investors from all over the world and uses it as an opportunity to
expand its business locally and internationally, which will help our economic growth
and attract more investors which could create more job opportunities for our fellowmen.

There are two factors affecting entrepreneurship, namely: personality and

environmental factors:
