Answer Part-A which is compulsory and any two from Part-B.
The figures in the right hand margin indicate marks.

Part – A (Answer all the questions)

Q1 Answer the following questions: Short answer type (1 x 5)

a) Write the relationship between line voltage, phase voltage, line current and 1
phase current for:
(i) Star Connection
(ii) Delta Connection
b) Define power factor. Write power factor of purely resistive load, purely 1
inductive load and purely capacitive load.
c) Write three similarities and three dissimilarities between electric and 1
magnetic circuit.
d) Define MMF, Flux and Reluctance. 1
e) Draw B-H curve. 1

Part – B (Answer any Two Questions) (5 x 2=10)

An air-cored toroidal coil has 1500 turns and carries a current of 0.2A. The
Q2 length of the magnetic circuit is 300mm and cross sectional area of the coil is
800mm2. Calculate:
(i) Magnetic field strength 5
(ii) Flux density
(iii) Total flux within the coil.

Q3 Three equal star connected inductors take 8 kW at a power factor 0.8 when
connected across a 460 V, 3-phase, 3-wire supply. Find the circuit constants 5
of the load per phase.
Q4 Three similar coils, each having a resistance of 20 ohms and an inductance
of 0.05H are connected in (i) Star (ii) Delta to a three phase, 50Hz supply
with 400-V between lines. Calculate the total power absorbed and the line 5
current in each case.
