Assignment for week 1: Prepare an essay of 500–700 words describing
the health system that you have selected. Make certain to use APA format,
including an introduction and conclusion in your essay. Describe the health
system, the history, and developmental phases of the organization. Include
the number and types of people who work in this system, for example, the
number of employees and the number of patients served. What are the
mission, vision, and values of your system? How are these things
demonstrated to their clients and the community?" How is the health
system evaluated, and what standards are they measured against?

Some of the guidelines for working on these skills within your paper include
the following:

NYU Langone Health is an academic medical center, it was opened in 1841. NYU Langone
Health's first hospital was established in 1948 as University Hospital on lower Broadway. In
1898, the Medical College consolidated with Bellevue Hospital Medical College, forming the
University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College of New York University. A new site was
acquired in midtown Manhattan in 1963, by First Avenue and the Franklin D. Roosevelt East
River Drive. With 18 –story building, it became the home of the University Hospital which
housed expanded research labs. In 1989, the University Hospital was renamed Tisch Hospital in
honor of Laurence and Preston Robert Tisch and families, benefactors of the University. In 2008,
the name was changed again to NYU Elaine A. and Kenneth G. Langone Medical Center in
honor of its chair of the Board of Trustees and his wife, who gave the largest gift in history an
amount of $200 million donation to the institution. NYU Langone Medical Center was renamed
NYU Langone Health in 2017. NYU Langone is ranked # 3 in the nation and number # 1 in New
York State on U.S News & World Report's 2022-2023 "Best Hospital Honor Roll".

At the moment, the Health system consists of NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU
Long Island School of Medicine, both part of New York University (NYU). NYU has more than
300 locations in the New York area. Tisch Hospital, Kimmel Pavilion, NYU Langone
Orthopedic Hospital, Hassenfeld Children's Hospital, NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn, and
NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island are the six inpatient facilities NYU Langone has and also
are so home to the RUSK Rehabilitation Institute. There are about 1,350 beds in total with all
hospital combined and 45,00 employees working in this organization.

 What are the mission, vision, and values of your system?

The mission of NYU Langone Health is in trifold that is to serve, teach, and discover. The trifold
mission is achieved daily through an integrated academic culture devoted to excellence in patient
care, education, and research. The vision is a world-class Patient-Centered, integrated academic
medical center. And the core values include performance, repect, integrity, Diversity and
Excellence. NYU Langone Health is committed to making world-class contributions that place
service to human health at the center of an academic culture devoted to excellence in research,
patient care, and education. Patient care includes patient-centered, collaborative, safe, best
practice, ethical, respectful of individual dignity, based on standards of excellence, and focusing
on improving individual and system outcomes available to the community.

Their research brings together outstanding basic scientists and clinical researchers to foster
highly collaborative, multidisciplinary investigation, inspiring new ideas and discoveries and
translating scientific advances more swiftly into new ways of diagnosing and treating patients
and preventing disease. The education is to continue redesigning medical education by
advancing a new curriculum for the 21st Century that is patient-centered and disease–focused,
based on topics to enhance the intellectual link between the classroom and patient care.

The smaller systems within the NYU health systems include multiple Family Group Practices
(FGPs) through the boroughs of New York City. In addition, NYU Langone
Occupational Health Services is part of the larger system. The Inside Health site consists
of Ellucid, FOCUS learning site, and policies by which the larger system (NYU Langone
Health) interrelate to the other smaller systems. They also have the Patient Safety
Intelligence (PSI), an electronic system that reports, track, and trends patient safety
events for inpatient facilities. For instance, when unexpected occurrence or variation in
care occurs SI event is entered and if an incident occurs frequently, the manger of the
department finds a way to improve the or reduced the occurrences.

There is a culture of excellence and continuous improvement at NYU Langone Health. One of the best
healthcare systems with a diverse population of employees. NYU Langone Health is committed to a
