Kenya National Highway Authority.
2. State the KeNHA’s mandate, mission, vision and core values.
Mandate: To manage, develop, rehabilitate, and maintain national trunk roads.
Mission: To develop and manage Quality and Adequate National Trunk Roads through Innovation and Optimal utilization of
resources for Sustainable Development.
Vision: The leading Authority in the provision of National Trunk Roads.

7. Explain the responsibilities of KeNHA.
KeNHA is responsible for the development, rehabilitation, management and maintenance of all National trunk roads comprising
of classes A, B and S roads.
8. What are the different classifications of KeNHA Roads?
Class S roads: A Highway that connects two or more cities and carries safely a large volume of traffic at the highest speed of
operation; Total - 40 Kilometers (All Paved)
Class A road: A Highway that forms a strategic route and corridor connecting international boundaries at identified immigration

entry and exit points and international
terminals such as international air or sea ports; Total - 6,830 Kilometers (Paved 4,975 KMs, Unpaved 1,855 KMs)

Class B roads : A Highway that forms an important national route linking national trading or economic hubs, County
Headquarters and other nationally important centers to each other and to the National Capital or to Class A roads. Total - 14,713
Kilometers (Paved 7,202 KMs, Unpaved 7,511 KMs

 Contract document : This written agreement executed by the Owner and Contractor setting forth the obligations of the

 Employer: This is a person who employs one or more workers or contracts for the services of one or more workers.
 Contractor: This is a person or anyone who directly employs or engages construction workers or manages construction work.
 Engineer representative: Resident Engineer or assistant to the Engineer-In-Charge appointed from time to time by the
company to perform the duties set forth in the contract whose authority may be notified in writing to the Contractor by the
Company.
