1. Before, I used to believe that the intellectual growth of children was molded or developed
by their experience and how they were taught by their parents, teacher, family, friends,
etc; but, after the discussion on Piaget’s Cognitive Development Theory, I learned that
cognitive development helped add to our understanding of children's intellectual growth.
It stressed that children were not merely passive recipients of knowledge. Instead, kids
are constantly investigating and experimenting as they build their understanding of how
the world works. Their cognitive development is not just about acquiring knowledge, the
child has to develop or construct a mental model of the world.

2. Before, I used to believe that the influence of social relationships on development has a
great effect on our learning; but, after the discussion on Erikson’s Psychosocial
Development Theory, I learned that Erikson maintained that personality develops in a
predetermined order through eight stages of psychosocial development, from infancy to
adulthood. During each stage, the person experiences a psychosocial crisis which could
have a positive or negative outcome for personality development.

3. Before, I used to believe that Moral development refers to the process whereby people
form a progressive sense of what is right and wrong, proper and improper.; but, after the
discussion on Kohlberg’s Moral Reasoning Theory, I learned that moral reasoning
focuses on how children develop morality and moral reasoning. This theory also
suggests that moral development occurs in a series of six stages and moral logic is
primarily focused on seeking and maintaining justice.
