This is the first of three really cool drawing projects that I have been hired for.
A stone werewolf is a mythical creature that combines the characteristics of a wolf and a stone
statue. It is typically depicted as a large, imposing figure, with the body of a wolf and a stony,
textured exterior that appears to be carved from solid rock. The creature is often shown in a
fierce, aggressive stance, with its jaws open and its eyes glowing with an otherworldly energy.
Legends surrounding stone werewolves vary widely depending on the culture and time period,
but they often involve the idea of a powerful and dangerous creature that can come to life under
certain conditions. In some versions, the stone werewolf is said to only be active during the full
moon, just like a traditional werewolf. In others, the creature is said to be brought to life by
magic or the influence of ancient gods.

That looks more like a Vampire: The Masquerade (ttrpg) version of a Gargoyle.

The art is absolutely gorgeous, don’t get me wrong…..

But I’m just missing playing one of them, as a stoic, philosophical killing machine.

Thanks! I understand your point, the basic idea was a mix between gargoyle and werewolf, so
nothing is wrong with what you said hahah. My first drafts were much closer to a bat, believe me

I’ve only been an ST for 3rd Edition and haven’t played in a lot of years….

But I made, and live in, a Canadian city that’s stuck between a boulder and 3 Sabbat cities.

I made the city’s Sheriff a Gargoyle.

That is the art I wish I had to show my players the absolute sublime power of that ….. very
focused, but incredibly effective Bloodline.

Never have I had an item of my own creation weaponized against me so effectively.

Game Tales

I DM a campaign in which I gave every character a homebrew “mystery potion” which they
would have to use identify to discover the effects. The potion only has the name on the bottle to
give a hint as to what it does. I truthfully assured my players that consuming the potions
wouldn’t damage them, but it will have an effect on you that may or may not be useful in
different situations.

A few sessions ago the lvl 5 party was in an intense battle. They were fighting a hag coven and a
cambion in a tower while two NPC’s that were previously taken hostage were making death
saving throws on the bottom floor.

Axol, the groups Bard thought that now would be a great opportunity to drink his mystery potion
instead of casting healing word on one of the dying NPC’S. I thought that was the absolute worst
decision in the moment but I would soon find out how wrong I was.

His potion was called Jambalaya Jamboree, and it makes any item you touch turn into a bowl of
Jambalaya with a spoon. Immediately upon consumption he turns his spear into a bowl of
jambalaya. He spends his next turn touching the shirt and skin of the now dead NPC on the tower
floor. The shirt turn into jambalaya but the dead body did not (as it is not an item). I gave this
information freely to the bard as a result of him spending his turn to experiment. And this is
where my bards creativity went beyond bounds I never imagined possible.

The situation at this point was tense. The party was low HP and had dispatched the hags, but the
cambion was unscathed and had charmed a beloved NPC named Ilmar to fight against the party.
The party is chipping away at the cambion’s health but Ilmar dealt a fatal blow that dropped our
fighter to zero.

Me: “Axol, your fighter just went down by the hand of your friend. And the cambion is still alive
and well. What do you do?” Axol: “I touch Ilmar’s weapon.” Me: “… roll… uhhhh to
acrobatics? To touch the weapon while he’s trying to avoid you.” Axol: “Sure!”

And being a bard he rolled a very high number and successfully turned Ilmar’s weapon into
jambalaya, rendering it unusable. In the mean time the celestial warlock gets the fighter back up
who grapples Ilmar and ties him up. On Axol’s next turn he approaches the cambion and same
thing - touches his weapon. It turns to jambalaya. In two turns the bard rendered an NPC useless
and took a big part of a monsters damage dealing ability away from him.

Nothing could have prepared me for the creativity of my bard player and I have never been more
impressed by his quick thinking. It makes me so happy to see my players taking creative risks
and having them pay off in surprising ways.

A paladin went to an artificer to get his car checked.

Out of Game

"It keeps trying to swerve off the road and kill innocent pedestians."

The artificer took a quick look under the car.

"Yup, looks like your alignment is wrong."

Made 8 attacks in a single round yesterday... at lvl 5! Fighter is just amazing

Game Tales

Playing D&D for about 7 years now, but only ever played ranger or monk (once a blood hunter
for very few sessions... but ya know, DEX and WIS all the way). Decided, it was time for
something different, so I tried fighter... boom, I'm suddenly useful!

I'm playing Echo Knight with Sentinel and Polearm Master and it's so much better than I
expected.

We were infiltrating an enemy fort, clearing out the barracks first. I decided to not use any of my
resources, and only used my echo with sentinel to hinder the enemies from exiting the room, so
our wizard could fireball them... which was already amazing. Our wizard rolled a 41 with his
8d6, effectively dealing 400 dmg, with 9/10 enemies failing their dex save. A great teamwork
combo already!

Then, in the final room, we encountered the final boss, a barb. And damn, he had a great first
turn, downing 3/5 of our party, including the cleric and the pala. I just casted my echo and poked
him with my halbeard two times with little effect. Welp. Looked pretty grim for us.

I could see that special look in our DM's face, he makes, when he knows he has to kill off at least
one character if things don't change quickly.

I thought about just running away, but with 3 guys down... not very heroic. So I decided to just
use all my recources in a single turn. And DAMN that felt good! With my echo in his range, I
attacked with it SIX GODDAMN times, using action search and unleashed, while having
advantage, because he was reckless. I missed no hit, critted 2 times and still, he was not down.
So I used my bonus action to attack him a seventh time with the butt of my halbeard, critting
AGAIN. Still not down. With the Boss only having me or the echo as logical target, he was
intelligent enough, to choose the real me and charged... last mistake of his life. Polearm Master! I
used my reaction and attacked him an eighth time - again, hitting. This time it was for good!

Wow, never felt so powerful in D&D and I once brought a ranger up to lvl 17!

I enjoy it, while it lasts, I'll sure be the number one target for the DM from now on

Watching my friends slowly realizing they were screwed

DMing

I was DMing a game where all my players were in a forest in separate areas. I had a large map
where they could move around and collect resources to build traps on their property to protect
themselves from invaders. Eventually, after about an hour of resource collecting, they ran into
each other and shared their resources and created maps for each other so they could find each
other when they needed something.

About a half hour later, I had my main villain kidnap them while they were out collecting stuff.
They were sent to the same location where they were imprisoned. I explained that they were
going to be interrogated, and I gave them 10 minutes to devise a strategy on the interrogation.
They all agreed to stay quiet until they found an opportunity to escape. I then asked all but one
person to leave the room. I started interrogating my players for information one by one. I gave
each person a choice, tell me where all the other player's houses were, or I would steal all of their
items they spent an hour gathering. If they refused to give up the location of their home, they
would be killed. I busted out an empty map and told each player separately to point on the map,
the location of their friend's house.
My players all backstabbed each other with almost no resistance and lied to each other when they
all met up again in their prison cells. I was dying from laughter and had to explain that they all
lost all of their items. The arguments and finger pointing was magical because none of them
would admit they ratted anyone out.

They absolutely RUINED Wild Shape

One D&D

As of right now the survey for the new One D&d playtest isn't out, So I'm just going to have to
resort to ranting on here. Everything, Literally every single thing they did to the mechanics of the
Wild Shape feature is atrocious. I can't even fathom how they thought it was good idea.

The one change I like that does involve Wild Shape is more of a global change to the Druid
itself. Instead of Wild Shape being the class's main resource, Wild Shape is merely one thing you
can activate when you use its new class resource, Channel Nature (ala Channel Divinity). I like
this change. There were already quite a few features within the Druid, particularly it's subclasses,
that arbitrarily required uses of your Wild Shape to have effects that are completely disconnected
from that feature. This makes it a lot cleaner and it also gives the base Druid some more options.
In particular Healing Blossoms is really cool because it's a low level, scaling, non-spell AOE
heal.

HOWEVER, every other change is absolutely abominable. To start with, The entire point of
Wild Shape is the idea that you can see a creature, and then transform into that creature, carrying
over all of its traits and abilities. It's strengths and weaknesses. ALL of that is gone. Wild Shape
no longer lets you transform into creatures, instead you can transform into one of three generic
"Beast" forms depending on your level that homogenizes all creatures within that category.

Want to transform into a Dire Wolf because you think it's abilities would be really nice in this
combat encounter? Too bad, you're stuck using the "Beast of the Land" Stat Block that you
would also use if you transform into a Bear, or a Lion, or a Horse, or a goddamn Poodle. There is
no variety in the Wild Shape transformations anymore. And on top of this, You don't even get
access to the stat blocks Multi Attack or Climbing Speed until Level 5, making it even LESS
interesting.

On top of this, It seems like they removed the "buffer" function of Wild Shape. You can't use the
HP of your Wild Shape form as a form of temporary HP over top of your Druid form, which
makes wild shaping and the specific creatures to tank attacks basically a non-factor. I imagine
that the reason this was done was to make it more cleanly understandable what the Druids HP is
at, as the new 13th Level feature, "Alternating Forms", allows you to transform out of your Wild
Shape for one round and then back into it again without expending a Channel Nature. This is a
really cool idea, but the problem could easily be solved by just having a clause within the feature
that states that when you transform back into your Wild Shape form, It retains the HP it had
when the Alternating Forms feature was used.

But it gets worse, because the homogenized stat blocks only allow you to choose between Small
Medium And Large, meaning that you can't transform into Tiny creatures anymore. This
removes basically all of the creative, out of combat utility of the Wild Shape form. You can't turn
into a tiny creature to squeeze into little gaps and scout out areas. Oh but don't worry. They did
think of that. So they created a special, specific feature that allows you to transform into a tiny
size (still homogenized so you don't get any of the benefits of said creature but we're getting
somewhere). And you only have to wait until... LEVEL ELEVEN????. That's right, You have to
be halfway to the power of a God before you can transform into a chipmunk. Hope you weren't
wanting to turn into a cockroach, because you'll have to slay a few dragons first.

It's been repeatedly stated that the philosophy for the changes to these classes is to bring out
everything that the original players of these classes loved and then add on top of it, this is
literally the dichotomal opposite of that. It absolutely baffles me that they didn't see the issues
with any of this.

(Edited because I misunderstood the Size of the Wild Shape forms, but point remains)
As an aside, the whole purpose of this playtest is to critique it, So if you're coming here just to
say "homebrew it" or "play another system" or "don't like it don't buy it", Just note that comment
is entirely irrelevant.

My party is trying to create a God

Game Tales

So, I got lazy a while back and started naming random guards and shopkeepers"Jimmy". I didn't
do it alot, but there are a couple of them per larger town or city and for fun they are all related...
well, my party has figured out that "Jimmy's always have the answers" and now they have
decided to gather all the jimmys in the world and worship them till they become a God jimmy...
help me.

Side note: my wife (one of the players, who plays a paladin) just read this and said "he won't be a
demi God, he'll be a jimmy God"
Edit: I have a plan! I love some of the ideas in the thread and am borrowing from some. But u
can't say too much... the players be lurking.

Kobold press’ “5E clone” aims to end “monopoly on D&D”

OGL

The first Project Black Flag playtest came out recently, and it seems Kobold Press had some
negative feedback on how similar the new RPG system is to D&D 5e. They've since released a
highly detailed blog post explaining that their "5e clone" (their words) is being designed with the
aim of de-monopolising D&D. In Celeste Conowitch's words, “I am not ready to give [D&D] up
or let its future be controlled by a single company”.

I've summarised the key points from Kobold Press here:

https://www.wargamer.com/dnd/kobold-press-5e-clone
What do you think of Kobold Press' design choices so far? How do you think this RPG system
will change things for D&D, if at all?

My Party was Right in Front of Me All Along

Out of Game

I've been DMing for D&D for roughly 10 years or so now. I've DMed 2e and have transitioned to
5e. With a large group of friends that all want to play all the time, I've always ran into the issue
of never getting to play.

Try to schedule a regular date, no one commits.

Try to reach out to when everyone is free to play, no one is sure.

Have a chance to finally play? Everyone who was quiet shows up last minute and now the group
is bigger than I intended.
Scheduling has always been the bane of my experience with this game and for years tarnished
my feelings towards it. Over time I blamed my friends for not showing up while showing an
enormous amount of interest in playing, but I know that it isn't their fault our lives can be a little
hard to plan around sometimes. Nevertheless, the game was fun to me, but a game that I never
thought I would have the pleasure of running regularly.

Then, my mom asked if she could play.

My family has a pretty extensive web of family friends and found family that we are regularly in
contact with. When they learned I DM and that I needed help on maybe running something for
fun to playtest an adventure, they were all in, including my own mom. My mom is no nerd by
any stretch of the imagination. My mom is the "trendy, fashionable, punk and knows everyone in
town" mom if you will. So, definitely not a nerd. But, she asked if she could join and I said,
"Absolutely."

And my god, is this the best group I've ever played with.

It's 8 people involving my girlfriend who has been a longtime friend of our family, my aunt and
uncle, their kids, my mom, my sister and her boyfriend. Everyone is so energetic and wonderful!
They have a long way to go in the way of roleplay, but none of them have ever done this before
so we're taking it slow and steady and they're having such a blast. Puzzles, fights, mysteries,
everything I give to them they eat up and love and ask for more. What's more, they schedule our
next date before they leave the table that way we know when our next session will be.

This is the first group I've gotten into a real campaign and had challenge my sense of deep
storytelling. I've had the chance to make a real, impactful and memorable story for everyone to
experience and it feels so rewarding when we all talk at the end of the session.

My mom raised me on her own and all those years of her being at work while I was at home and
not seeing her I feel is finally coming back. I'm finally getting all of those years back I missed on
connecting and sharing something I love so much with her, and we're always talking now about
how much fun we had and what we'll be facing next.

I knew this game was fun. But I didn't know it could heal like this.

My DM told me flying races can’t fly until level 6

5th Edition

I can see the point in homebrewing this, as flying can be a pain in the ass to balance, still kinda
sad I won’t be able to use the variant tieflings wings until 6th level tho.. he seems chill though

Edit: Me and my DM have agreed to lower the level to 5 and to give me a permanent “Slow Fall”
from the monk class. Thanks for the suggestions and replies people! Truly an awesome
community!
