I'm wondering if that is an isolated example. a few years back when 8 played through ToA, I had
so much gold I was bribing officials left, right and center for hundreds of gold pieces each.
and if you follow the treasure guidelines in the DMG, you will rapidly have more gold than
things to do with it.

I bet. having too little gold is far worse than having too much (to the point it's irrelevant). if only

Using Wish to replicate another spell doesn't give you the debuff or the risk of losing the spell.
So just replicate Resurrection and you're good. And it doesn't consume any material components
because it's Wish!

That depends. If reviving me isn't an option, then no. If the fights is going badly and an extra

enough to hold it against the player. In the end I still died. Expecting to be revived takes away

Play as a zombie with thar statblock ... annoyed but still enjoyable.
Either under the DM's control and I'm just sitting at the table waiting for something ... I probably

I prefer to take the spells out of the game so that I can make the act of reviving someone be a
much bigger thing than a simple spell. I want someone dying and being resurrected to be a big
thing. My group loves it and hordes the resurrection signets they find like they are precious
artifacts from a bygone era (they are).

For my games, Revivify is more like a magic defibrillator or CPR. Their heart stopped for 30
seconds, they were technically dead, but people are resuscitated like that often enough in real
life, it's not a huge deal (this also depends on how they died though). Then the other rez spells
involve rituals and skill challenges.

It's a hot take apparently that basically having free plot armor is dumb. I love that the accepted

Gallant uses Animate Dead on a wild magic sorcerer who fireballs himself in an Adventure

Depending on how attached I was to that character but in general yes, I would be pretty miffed,
less so about the act and more about the disrespect.
If my character dies I usually want them to have a fitting end, plus there's always the possibility
of my character's death being used as plot or for future events, being used as a cheap Animate
Dead target would remove all impact and honestly make me pretty pissed ngl.
Also the fact that if you're able to cast Animate Dead you're also very much likely to be able to
cast Revivify at most, or at least Gentle Repose to be revived later?

Animate Dead has a 1 minute cast time. So it’s practically unusable in combat, and wouldn’t
work functionally. Danse Macabre or Finger of Death would get around this, but they are 5th and
7th level spells respectively (the latter requiring the killing blow). If the character would have
expected a rez, however, this would not be a cool thing to do, though. So you’ll want to gauge to
other players’ opinions before this.

Real talk, tho. Unless you were attached to the character or the cleric was a full on asshat, I
wouldn't be too upset. I'd likely be annoyed in the moment because the Negative Energy just
disrupted any chances of coming back outside a proper Resurrection (unless the DM ruled that

fuck that noise), but next session I'd be fine.

If resurrection wasn't on the table, then no, using my character's body as a resource to keep the

Is animate dead fucking my character over in the afterlife? Then hell yeah I’d be mad. This isn’t
default lore for D&D afaik but I think it’s how free-willed undead work in Golarion.
Is revivify or reincarnation an option? Then also yeah, I’d be mad. As players we both know that
I’ll just come back with a new PC at the same level, but in character that’s basically saying he
has no regard for my character as a person- just as a sack of hitpoints between him and his
enemies. Imo if I did somehow get brought back after this I’d be well within my rights to kill
him.
Are we in a desperate struggle where dead is dead, and another body on the field would help
even the odds? Yeah that’s fine, I’d encourage it.
My PC might be a little grumpy about it in the afterlife, but it’s ultimately for the best. I’d be
insulted if I died and the other players didn’t take my stuff to give them a fighting edge. Same
sort of idea.

I'd only be mad if there was reason to believe the Cleric hadn't tried his best to prevent my death.
Even then I wouldn't be actually angry if the player was being true to who his character was. I'd
actually find it cool that the Cleric is doing everything in there power to win the fight and not die

The real question is would my character be mad. Answer: no, they would be dead.

It all depends on the situation. If facing an otherwise certain TPK then yes. But, revivify (if there
are the mats), gentle repose (if I need to make it till the mats can be acquired) are much
preferred.
What level party and context matter A LOT. In a well established party with the Death Domain
Cleric not being of an evil alignment, I would expect all efforts to be used to bring a party
member back. Not turned into an undead tool.

In our Curse of Strahd campaign (where diamonds are very rare), Strahd promised the death
domain cleric a diamond if the cleric reanimates the first party member who dies. Since the cleric
can't raised without the diamond anyway, it is a method to rescue the second person who dies
and Strahd is sowing discord in the party and corrupting them.

So I DMed for four kids (6-8 year olds). At about the fifth session they came face to face with
the evil necromancer they had been looking for . I describe how evil , dark, scary he is. kids roll
their eyes then start taunting him about trying to kiss people. I was confused. After a few more
jokes, it dawned on me. They didn’t know what a necromancer was , they thought I was saying
“neck romancer “.😂
Edit: Holy crap! A gold ? I am humbled and thankful. I hope this brought a smile to your face.
Please consider donating a few $$ to your local literacy program or consider starting a DnD
outreach program !!!!
After posting , I went over the incident with my daughter. She still remembers it from a few
years ago. She corrected me the ages were more like 6-10 and she said she was the ring leader of
that.

One D&D
As of right now the survey for the new One D&d playtest isn't out, So I'm just going to have to
resort to ranting on here. Everything, Literally every single thing they did to the mechanics of the
Wild Shape feature is atrocious. I can't even fathom how they thought it was good idea.
The one change I like that does involve Wild Shape is more of a global change to the Druid
itself. Instead of Wild Shape being the class's main resource, Wild Shape is merely one thing you
can activate when you use its new class resource, Channel Nature (ala Channel Divinity). I like
this change. There were already quite a few features within the Druid, particularly it's subclasses,
that arbitrarily required uses of your Wild Shape to have effects that are completely disconnected
from that feature. This makes it a lot cleaner and it also gives the base Druid some more options.
In particular Healing Blossoms is really cool because it's a low level, scaling, non-spell AOE
heal.
HOWEVER, every other change is absolutely abominable. To start with, The entire point of
Wild Shape is the idea that you can see a creature, and then transform into that creature, carrying
over all of its traits and abilities. It's strengths and weaknesses. ALL of that is gone. Wild Shape
no longer lets you transform into creatures, instead you can transform into one of three generic
"Beast" forms depending on your level that homogenizes all creatures within that category.
Want to transform into a Dire Wolf because you think it's abilities would be really nice in this
combat encounter? Too bad, you're stuck using the "Beast of the Land" Stat Block that you
would also use if you transform into a Bear, or a Lion, or a Horse, or a goddamn Poodle. There is
no variety in the Wild Shape transformations anymore. And on top of this, You don't even get
access to the stat blocks Multi Attack or Climbing Speed until Level 5, making it even LESS
interesting.
On top of this, It seems like they removed the "buffer" function of Wild Shape. You can't use the
HP of your Wild Shape form as a form of temporary HP over top of your Druid form, which
makes wild shaping and the specific creatures to tank attacks basically a non-factor. I imagine
that the reason this was done was to make it more cleanly understandable what the Druids HP is
at, as the new 13th Level feature, "Alternating Forms", allows you to transform out of your Wild
Shape for one round and then back into it again without expending a Channel Nature. This is a
really cool idea, but the problem could easily be solved by just having a clause within the feature
that states that when you transform back into your Wild Shape form, It retains the HP it had
when the Alternating Forms feature was used.
But it gets worse, because the homogenized stat blocks only allow you to choose between Small
Medium And Large, meaning that you can't transform into Tiny creatures anymore. This
removes basically all of the creative, out of combat utility of the Wild Shape form. You can't turn
into a tiny creature to squeeze into little gaps and scout out areas. Oh but don't worry. They did
think of that. So they created a special, specific feature that allows you to transform into a tiny
size (still homogenized so you don't get any of the benefits of said creature but we're getting
somewhere). And you only have to wait until... LEVEL ELEVEN????. That's right, You have to
be halfway to the power of a God before you can transform into a chipmunk. Hope you weren't
wanting to turn into a cockroach, because you'll have to slay a few dragons first.
It's been repeatedly stated that the philosophy for the changes to these classes is to bring out
everything that the original players of these classes loved and then add on top of it, this is
literally the dichotomal opposite of that. It absolutely baffles me that they didn't see the issues
with any of this.
(Edited because I misunderstood the Size of the Wild Shape forms, but point remains)
As an aside, the whole purpose of this playtest is to critique it, So if you're coming here just to
say "homebrew it" or "play another system" or "don't like it don't buy it", Just note that comment
is entirely irrelevant.

Players want to Polymorph into Wyvern and then milk it for venom
5th Edition
**2nd Edit**
Just found the list of what is a beast in 5e. Young Green Dragon isn't either, so I guess he can't
do any of these.
**EDIT**
He has clarified he wants to be a young green dragon. Would a young green dragon be
considered a beast?
Our rogue wants to have our Wizard polymorph him into a young green wyvern and then let the
wizard attempt to milk him for the venom to make a poison he can apply to his weapons.
We are close to end game anyways, so I will allow it, but trying to figure out what an appropriate
animal handling DC would be for him to successfully get the poison vs. something else?

Due to some poor rolls, the jig was up and the goblins discovered the martials while one of them
was carrying the child out of camp. The goblins descended on them and they were massively
outnumbered and surrounded. On the paladin’s first turn they refused to help and walked away,
first casting bless on my character, before exiting the area. They reasoned that their character
avoids fights, tries to redeem people not kill them and didn’t ask for this fight.
Honestly, I was in shock. This is a “lawful good” character abandoned a child to die and be eaten
as well as the two martials. Thanks to some good rolls, we survived the fight and got some loot,
including two magic items both my character and the paladin could use.
Now the problem, next session I plan on giving the paladin an in character bollocking as frankly,
my character sees what they did as evil. In addition, when divying up the loot I don’t see why we
should share anything with them. Out of character though, I want everyone to get along and I
don’t want to make it seem like I am trying to hog the magic items we could both use - do you
have any advice on how to approach this?

FIRST, voice your concern to the DM. If they have plans on addressing it, let them.
If they dont:
In character. "That was a rough one, folks... Fer most of us anyway. Let's divvy up the loot
yeah?"
This will turn up the heat, at which point the conversation can happen above table OOC.
Remain civil, even when the Paladin doesn't. Explain your concerns and find common ground.

I would add that you can also address this to the Paladin, not the player.
Ask the Paladin how the group can possibly trust them? They are a team, and the Paladin
abandoned them.

A Paladin who fails to keep code or does any evil act loses all Paladin abilities and becomes just
a fighter and can never again be a Paladin,
IMHO leaving a child to die when the Party had already half rescued them would probably
qualify...

I have nothing to offer (you've already got way better advice than I could give), but please update
us! I'd love want to hear how this ends up playing out!

Sure thing, I will come back to this comment specifically - I want everyone to have fun but I just
don’t understand how forfeiting all your turns in an hour long combat is fun for the paladin

Okay so I spoke to the DM today and he was surprised too by the paladin’s actions. As a fairly
new player, he isn’t going to punish her by taking away powers etc. but said he will try and work
with her to sort out her motivations and give her a reason to work with the group. He has also
said he is going to try and outline what is “evil” more clearly for the paladin (I.e. child killing
goblins are pretty much irredeemably evil) and that we need to work as a team. Some people
have said to kick the character, but that is not on the table for us.
We also discussed how best for my character to deal with it - we both approached the topic by
keeping in mind the goal is for every to have fun and remain faithful to their character. We
agreed that it really is a golden opportunity to roleplay conflict in the group (provided we keep in
in character). My character is very logical and would pose the Q: what if you left and the
martials and they died? The end result is, the goblins would have found the child and killed him
too. How does that align with their faith?
Another thing about my character is that previously, he had tried to do things the “right” way
before, and it ultimately got him unfairly disgraced, cast down and his best friend/mentor killed.
I plan on alluding to this (developing my character with the other players) and reason that in the
face of imminent danger, my character will always act first and talk later as he has been burned
before. This is also an opportunity for my character and the paladin to find common ground - we
both want what is best for the greater good.
I did mention the loot but the DM didn’t mention it in his reply, so I imagine it is something he is
leaving to the PCs to resolve. I won’t press not having loot for the paladin as that is kind of a
dick move, but in character I would roleplay absolutely not wanting to share and (maybe)
begrudgingly agreeing.

"They reasoned that their character avoids fights, tries to redeem people not kill them and didn’t

If "what your character would do" is leave the party to die and go sit on the sidelines and not
participate, then you're not playing the game. Make a new character. Party buy-in is mandatory.
What reason would your characters even have to continue to adventure with this dude who left
y'all to die? A player going "its what my character would do" and creating this situation means
the rest of the party is left with the choice being super not-in-character and dragging along this
liability of a character purely because they're a PC, or the player just needs to make a new
character.

This. There is no way I'd go into a dangerous situation with a person who has demonstrated
they'd happily walk off and leave me. Kick them from the party.

He abandoned party. I would tell him straight up in a calm voice you ran away and left the party.
We can not trust you. Till you earn our trust you get as much of the loot as work you put in to the
actual combat. Which is none.

The fight had just started, right? You weren't clearly losing?
The paladin should consider themselves lucky to get no loot at all, because it would be
completely valid to boot the character from the party entirely for leaving everyone else to die.

The two martials and the child where in the centre of the camp (the death pit) completely
surrounded.
We are early in and not had much chance for friendships to form, is their defence, which I can
sort of get is reasoning to leave the party members. I just can’t get over leaving a child to get
eaten.

They bailed. They get either nothing or at a bare minimum a pittance from the loot. They did
help to plan but didn’t execute.

The paladin says that they didn’t ask for a fight but taking the quest to save the child was them
agreeing to a fight. I’m confused

I want to give the benefit of the doubt, but it’s not like the paladin tried to sneak round to protect
the child or anything - they literally walked away from the entire thing

First check with the DM see what they have to say about it. If they don't have anything to say.
Then banish this Paladin from the party.
If "what his character would do" is run away and leave y'all to die then why would your
character continue to work with that Paladin. They can't be counted on.
The player can make a new character that wants to work with the party.
