How to maintain the quality and correct storage of the following items.

There are various types of items that need to be stored in the premises let’s take a look at some
of the things you need to know.
1. Dairy products.
 After breaking a seal of a product, we have to store that product in the
refrigerator which ranges between 0o C and 4o C.
 Dairy products can be kept for 2-4 days in the refrigerator.
 If dairy products are still sealed we can store them in the dry store which
maintains a temperature between 10oC and 20oC.
 Never keep any dairy products for longer than 2 hours.

2. Frozen goods.
 Frozen goods such as;
 Chick peas.
 Ham.
 Bacon.
 Sausage.
 All sorts Fries.
 Fish fillets.
 Ice cream.
These products should be stored in a freezer.

 A freezer always maintains a temperature zone which is under -18oC.


 Any goods which are not sealed should be covered tightly with moisture proof
clear film or aluminum wrap.
 This is to prevent from contamination and freezer burns.

3. Fruit.
 Fruits such as;
 Oranges.
 All sorts of berries.
 Apples.
 Grapes.
Should be stored in a cool room or a fridge.

 Fruits such as;


 Avocado.
 Mangoes.
 Guava.
 Papaw.
 Pineapples.
Should be stored in the dry store.
4. Meat.
 Fresh meat should be stored in a refrigerator at 3oC or below. Therefore, meat
should be stored at temperatures that are as cold as possible.
 The typical refrigerated storage life for fresh meats is 3 to 5 days.
 Seal the meat in an airtight package before freezing.
 Under typical freezer storage of −18 °C beef can be stored for 6 to 12 months,
lamb for 6 to 9 months, pork for 6 months, and sausage products for 2 months.

5. Poultry.
 Store fresh, raw poultry for no more than one to two days.
 Rinsing poultry before cooking is no longer recommended. It effects for the
quality.
 Always place poultry in plastic bags to keep juices from leaking or dripping onto
other food items.
 Raw poultry should be stored in a bowl or on a platter in the bottom of the
refrigerator.

6. Vegetable.
 Vegetable such as;
 Carrots.
 Potatoes.
 Broccoli.
 Cabbage.
 Celery.
Should be stored in a plastic bag or container in the crisper of your fridge.

 Vegetables should be stored in a different part of the fridge than fruit.


 Canned vegetables can be kept for 1-2 years.
 Freezing vegetables at home is a fast and easy way to preserve nutrients and
enjoy the taste of summer vegetables all year long.
