rinsing. Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell.

Section 5: Fire-fighting Measures

5.1 Suitable extinguishing media
Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.
5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
In case of fire, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and formaldehyde gas may release.
5.3 Special protective equipment and precautions for fire-fighters
Use self-contained breathing apparatus and a chemical protective suit. Respiratory and eye protection is
required for fire fighting personnel.
5.4 Further information
Cool containing vessels with water spray in order to prevent pressure build-up, autoignition or explosion.

Section 6: Accidental Release Measures
6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment, and emergency procedures
Ensure adequate ventilation. Wear personal protective equipment. Air line or self-contained respirator should be used
if entry is made into a storage tank or unventilated area containing large spillage Remove all sources of ignition.
Evacuate area.
6.2 Environmental precautions
Do not allow product to enter drain, surface or ground water.
6.3 Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up
Shut-off all lines involved in the emergency area if safe to do so. Ventilate area with explosion-proof equipment.
Use PPE appropriate to spill size and risk of exposure. Confine spillage and absorb on sand, or other non-
combustible absorbent material and place in container for disposal according to local regulations. Dispose off
via a licensed waste disposal contractor. Uncontaminated spilled should be contained and pumped into
containment for recovery. Retain all contaminated water for treatment. Do not flush to sewer.

Section 7: Handling and Storage

7.1 Precautions for safe handling
Ensure good ventilation of work place, by natural draft or by using forced draft ventilation. Avoid breathing of
vapour and prolonged skin contact. Wear full-face dust/mist respirator with a formaldehyde cartridge when
entry into a storage tank or unventilated area containing large spillage. Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using
this product. Workers should wash hands and face before eating, drinking and smoking. Remove contaminated
clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.
7.2 Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Storage tank should be internal lined steel or stainless steel. Pipe and pump have to be stainless steel. Store in a cool and
well-ventilated area, away from strong, alkalis and strong oxidizing agents.

Section 8: Exposure Controls and Personal Protection

8.1 Exposure controls
Permissible Exposure Limit
Chemical Name CAS No. Ceiling Limit Airborne Concentration Reference
Formaldehyde 50-00-0 0.3 ppm, 0.37mg/m³ USECHH 2000 Malaysia
8.2 Personal protection
8.2.1 Appropriate engineering controls
Use general or local exhaust ventilation to meet statutory exposure limit requirement.
8.2.2 Personal protection equipment
Use tightly fitted safety glasses, neoprene or rubber gloves and neoprene aprons. Respirator is no required where
adequate ventilation conditions exist. If airborne concentration exceeds statutory exposure level, a high
efficiency full-face respirator with a formaldehyde cartridge is recommended. If concentration exceeds capacity
of respirator, a self-contained breathing apparatus is advised. Eyewash and safety shower should be provided at
work place.
