- Organized by SATROP SCHOOLS
Details of the event:
Date: Saturday, May 14, 2022
Time: 10:25am - 12:05pm
Venue: Zoom.
The opening prayer was said by Mrs Osuji (a parent).
Ms Payne gave the welcome address and there was a brief introduction of staff by Ms Chika (the
MC for the day). The profile of the guest speaker - Dr Vera James was read by Ms Frances.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEMINAR
The guest speaker, Dr Vera James GC spoke on intentional parenting and how to help your
child/ren to be smarter than the smart device. The following were some of the areas of
highlights:
MISTAKES PARENTS MAKE
• Pessimism: This is the case of expecting that your child would do the worst things at all
times.
• Expecting so much from your children.
• Listening to too much information. It is not outrightly bad but you should be able to sieve
the information heard.
• Worrying about everything i.e building a mountain out of a mole
• Taking extreme measures.
SOME WRONG QUOTES FROM PARENTS
1) I have suffered and I don’t want my child to suffer.
2) I do not know what you guys teach in this school; my child does not greet? Education starts
from the home. Charity begins at home, teach your children how to greet and show respect.
Teach them family values
3) Some parents would say, you don’t know my child, he/she will not listen.
4) I will not give my child all they need so that he/she does not get overpampered.
5) Terrible twos: This is a situation where children at the age of two are regarded as being
mischievous and terrible.
Finally, speaking on intentional parenting, home management encompasses; mindset (problem-
solving/ critical thinking and empathy)
Skillset includes time management, decision making, money management
It is imperative that you know their love language e.g act of service, words of affirmation,
quality time, physical touch and gift-giving. Show them love and ensure they have a balanced
upbringing; they should not be overpampered or uncared for.
HAVE A TECH PLAN TO USE
The second segment Dr Vera James spoke on was on choosing an appropriate tech plan for your
children.
Here are some family apps
• google family link
• software apps, kidlogger etc…
HOW TO ACTIVATE PARENTAL CONTROL ON THE SMART DEVICE
This session was taken by Mr Okechukwu Nehemiah.
He spoke on how to activate the parental control on your child’s smart device (Android) using
the steps below:
Step 1 open the google play store
Step 2 Tap on profile/ Account
Step 3 Tap setting
Step 4 Tap on the family menu
Step 5 Tap on parental control. You will notice that parental control is off, tap to turn on
Create a pin, confirm the pin but ensure that your child does not know the pin, then choose
your child’s age range and save.
IMPORTANCE OF BOOSTING YOUR CHILD’S IMMUNE SYSTEM
The last session was taken by Mrs Modupe. She spoke on the importance of boosting your child’s
immune system.
She emphasized the benefits of fruit intake and advised that they avoid food or drinks that end
with “ose” (fructose, sucrose, maltose) as part of the ingredients, as these are sugar agents.
The excessive consumption of those kinds of drinks can lead to obesity or diabetes in children,
hence parents are encouraged to give more fruits and vegetables to their children. She also used
this opportunity to remind and encourage our parents to always give their children fruits and
water as snacks on Wednesday as that day is the School’s Fruit Day.

Mr. Isaac said the closing remark and the seminar ended with a closing prayer by Ms. Ijeoma.
We had more than forty participants in attendance.

Warm regards,
Management.
