Findings:
Flow cytometric analysis reveals a distinct population (45% of the total) of atypical cells/plasma cells, which
are negative for CD45, CD19 and CD20. These cells show kappa light chain (cytoplasmic) restriction, co
express CD38 and CD138 and are positive for CD56, CD200, CD117 and CD27 (subset). Of the remaining
cells, 2% are lymphoid, 52% are granular myeloid and 1% are erythroid/debris.

Impression:
The flow cytometric findings are suggestive of a plasma cell neoplasm with 45% atypical cells with
plasma cell immunophenotype. However, it is highly recommended to correlate with serum protein
electrophoresis and immunofixation studies. Correlation with clinical features, peripheral blood findings and
bone marrow morphology is essential for final conclusion.

This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by LPL .
