DISCUSSION POST

I have started learning about matter during elementary years, from Grade 4 if I’m
not mistaken with the curriculum. Therefore, at the start of the discussion it was easy for
me to differentiate the states of matter.

However, what I found more interesting from the ‘Chemistry of Solid’ are the
crystal systems as well as the graphene.

The crystal system and graphene differs mainly in their structural form— 3D and
2D, respectively. It is also noticeable that the graphene is structures like a honeycomb
and is a single layer, while the crystal system is composed of 3 axes, angles, and sides.

These are my key takeaways from the discussion of the crystals systems, which
are simplified by me for better understanding:

Cubic System: This is composed of 3 axes of equal angles which is 90 degrees.

On the other hand, Tetragonal System has 3 axes, wherein the 2 axes lie on the
same plane with same length, and does have other short-length axis.

As for the system with 3 equal right angles perpendicular to each one, however
do have unequal length is defined as an Orthorhombic System.

Next with 3 equal axes and angles, Rhombohedral.

Kind of similar to tetragonal system, a Monoclinic System has 3 sides with an

unequal side and only 2 of it have or are equal to 90 degrees.

It was also mentioned how Triclinic System is the most unsymmetrical with all
angles inclined to each other.

Lastly, the Hexagonal System with straight prism and a rhombus base, and
edges angles that total with 120 degrees.

As for the graphene, I learned its different application, for instances in electronics
devices when a graphene is used for fast transistors.

What I also found interesting about I, and had fun, with the idea of seeing it only
when zoomed in to better see how the structure looks and what makes up the structures
and things of such.
