WHAT IS PNEUMONIA?
Pneumonia is an infection in your lungs
caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. It
causes your lung tissue to swell
(inflammation) and can cause fluid or pus
in your lungs. The flu (influenza virus) and
the common cold (rhinovirus) are the most
common causes of viral pneumonia in
adults. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is
the most common cause of viral
pneumonia in young children.
