Main Idea and Summarizing

The song gave tips that are important to finding the main idea. First is that you can find the main
idea in the first sentence of the source. Finding the point of the paragraph also shows you the main idea.
Second is reading the title of the story or source. To make a summary in the entire paragraph, it’s easier
to say it in your own words of what you understand.

The two (2) types of main ideas are implied and stated. Implied means you have to guess the
main idea with evidence and details in the source, then you can guess the main idea. Stated means that
the main idea is already identifiable, usually can already be found in the first sentence of a paragraph.

My favorite line in the song is “What’s the point of what you read? That is the main idea.” It’s
easier for me to remember and to apply the information I learned, thus making me find the main idea
quicker and easier.

The song made use of simple ways to explain. It’s easier to digest since it’s in a song, it’s short,
and it states the important details in finding the main idea.
