Relief Valve (Main) (Fixed Displacement Pump) - Test and

Adjust

To prevent personal injury when checks are made while the machine is
in operation, make sure only approved personnel are on the machine.
Keep other personnel off the machine and in view of the operator. Make
sure checks are done in an open area.

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or

near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the
machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the
machine.

1. Position the machine so that the machine is in the STRAIGHT AHEAD position.

2. Move the steering frame lock into the LOCKED position.

3. Engage the parking brake. Move the transmission direction control switch to the NEUTRAL
position.

4. Shut off the engine.

5. Move the control levers to all the positions in order to release any pressure that is in the pilot
system.

Hydraulic Breaker Relief Valve

6. Press the hydraulic breaker relief valve for the implement hydraulic tank in order to release the
pressure in the tank. Slowly loosen the tank filler cap in order to release any remaining
pressure that is in the tank. Tighten the cap.

The following procedure is for left main relief valve (4). The center rear and the right main relief
valves adjust the same way.

Remove the cap from pressure tap (1). Install the 8T-0860 Pressure Gauge and the 6V-3081 Hose
As.

NOTICE
Do not hold this function or any other function stalled for more than 10
seconds. Hydraulic oil is heated very rapidly when the oil is channeled
through relief valves. Component damage could result.

NOTICE
To prevent damage to the hydraulic system components from oil that is
too hot, monitor the hydraulic oil temperature in the procedure that
follows.

Adjustment of the Main Relief Valves

1. Start the engine. Run the engine at high idle.

2. Raise the bucket off the ground. Move the bucket to the full RACKBACK position. Hold the
bucket in this position.

3. Read the gauge that is connected to pressure tap (1) .

4. The pressure setting of the main relief valve should be 32800 ± 400 kPa (4750 ± 58 psi).

5. If the opening pressure of the relief valve is not within the specified range, the relief valve
must be adjusted.

6. Loosen locknut (7) on left main relief valve (4). Turn adjuster (8) clockwise in order to
increase the pressure setting of the relief valve. Turn adjuster (8) counterclockwise in order to
decrease the pressure setting of the relief valve. The pressure will change 1275 kPa (185 psi)
for each 1/4 turn.

7. After the relief valve is adjusted hold adjuster (8) and tighten locknut (7) to 50 ± 7 N·m (35 ±
5 lb ft).

8. Run the engine at low idle in order to allow the hydraulic oil to cool.

9. After the hydraulic oil cools, stop the engine.
