RPG

Hello everyone! I am here in front of all of you now to inform and

educate all of you about role-playing games or RPGs for short. The very first
commercially available role-playing game was published in 1974 by Gygax’s
TSR. Now what are Role-playing games you ask? Well role-playing games are
types of games that make players assume the roles of characters in a fictional
setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a
narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured
decision-making regarding character development. Actions taken in these
games may succeed or utterly fail depending on the system of rules and
guidelines of the game. The games have a set of game mechanics which is
used to determine the outcome of a character’s in-game actions.
There are many forms of role-playing games. The original form which is
called the tabletop role-playing game (TRPG) is played through discussions,
whereas in live action role-playing (LARP), players physically perform their
character’s actions as if they really are their fictional characters. And in both
of these forms, an arranger called a game master (GM) usually decides on the
rules and settings to be used, while also acting as a referee. Several other
forms of RPGs also exist in electronic media, such as multiplayer text-based
Multi-User Dungeons (MUDs) and their graphics based successors, massively
multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs).
Role-playing games also include single-player role playing video games
in which players take control of a character, or a team of characters, who
undertake quests and may include player capabilities that advance using
statistical mechanics. These electronic games sometimes share settings and
rules with tabletop RPGs, but focus more on character advancement rather
than collaborative storytelling. Examples of these types of RPGs are Final
fantasy, Dragon Quest and Pokémon. And so that concludes my informative
speech about role-playing games, a huge thank you to all of you for listening.
