Genre is a French word meaning


“type” or “category.” The reason we can identify something as being
a particular genre is because it follows the codes and conventions of
that genre. Codes and conventions are aspects that appear in most
texts of that genre. For example, the codes conventions of science
fiction include spaceships, aliens, flashing lights. Genre films also
have typical narratives, cinematography, mise en scene, sound etc
