ARGUMENT #1 (Leo)

Wearing school uniforms may deter crime and increase student safety.

● School uniforms prevent students from concealing weapons under baggy clothing, make
it easier to keep track of students on field trips, and make intruders on campus more
visible.
- Concealing weapons under baggy clothings can be prevented because of school
uniforms, no spaces to hide something dangerous underneath. Together with the proper
security measures of the school, the chance of the students bringing a weapon will be
less likely to happen since they will be monitored before they go inside the campus
(through the help of school guards).
- Even from a distance, teachers and administrators may more easily distinguish between
students and non-students thanks to school uniforms. Because of this, it is simple for
them to keep children safe and away from locations where they are not expected to be
during school hours. Wearing a school uniform will also avoid bullying, violence, and
formation of gangs that will affect the education of the student.

● Wearing school uniform will also avoid bullying, violence, and formation of gangs that will
affect the education of the student.
- Without school uniforms, the potential for children to tease and make fun of one another
is increased. Yes, students wear clothing styles to express themselves, but if one
expresses themself in a different way to everyone else, it can create a point of difference
between one student and another.
- School uniforms will prevent gangs from gaining the identity and attention they crave.
Students who join such gangs just for popularity from being identified with them are also
likely to quit as uniforms make them feel the same as the rest of the student body.

ARGUMENT #2 (Alena)
It helps students to be more focused on studying and become more organized

● Wearing uniforms avoids distractions, such as looking at some outfits, because some of
them are considered strange or overly revealing.
- When all the students are in the same uniform, they will be able to focus on their studies
instead of wondering if they fit in. Fashion trends and owning the latest styles become
the priority, and it could lead to a downturn in that child’s progress at school.
- No student will be concerned with how their clothes look. Uniforms eliminate the need for
competition, especially among female students. There is very little distraction for the
students when everyone is in the same type of clothes.
● As a result, there may be a notable improvement in the performance of the students
when it comes to academics.
- The boost in self-esteem when all the students feel the same also boosts performance.
- Instead of using the time to look for something you’d wear to school, you can use your
time for more significant things such as organizing your materials for school, or use it as
a time to review and browse your notes in the morning.
ARGUMENT #3(Cassy)
School uniforms should be required because it deters social and economical
barriers

● Without uniforms, children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds could feel isolated if
their parents cannot afford the newest trends in clothing.

-Due to the fact that they are not able to afford the newest fashion and can't keep up with
their friends, this can be a reason for the bullying they will receive from their
schoolmates.

● Children from various backgrounds can quickly recognize a fellow student or teammate
by the clothes they are wearing, fostering a sense of community and commonality that is
lost when school uniforms are removed in the school policy.

-The school is identified for its uniform. The purpose of wearing a uniform is to help
students look more in line with their school identity. By using their uniforms as a means
of identification, students are better able to identify one another.

● Uniforms eliminate “competitive dressing” which ought to reduce levels of conflict and
distraction. As a result, kids are less likely to misbehave, and more likely to focus on
learning.
● They feel a sense of similarity, familiarity and belongingness with the school and all its
members. This helps build a sense of unity amongst all the school students. Such a
team feeling helps the overall character and personality of a student grow which will help
him/ her in various areas of his/ her life

QUESTIONS THAT CAN BE THROWN BACK:

ARGUMENT #1
● Students that are gang members are still capable of bringing weapons to school
regardless of their outfits. How can wearing uniforms guarantee the safety of the
students when they can find other ways to bring weapons with them to school?
- Like what I have mentioned earlier, with the proper security measures of the school, the
chance of the students bringing a weapon will be less likely to happen since they will be
checked before entering the school.
● How can you be sure that a student isn't a member of a gang despite wearing their
uniforms?
ARGUMENT #2
● How can a student’s outfit affect his/her ability to focus on her school work?
- They might tend to focus or spend more time on choosing what they should wear to
school rather than doing more important things regarding school activities.

ARGUMENT #3
● Is this sense of familiarity and unity necessary for students' academics?

SUMMARY:

Argument 1: Prevention against sneaking weapons into the school and therefore, allows us to
avoid dangers like formations of gangs.

Argument 2: It avoids the distracting design of some outfits that cause students to turn or look;
in turn, the students they are looking at won't feel self-conscious because no one will look at
them anymore.

Argument 3: Eliminates the competitive dressing climate that could cause bullying within
schools and allows a more affordable option to parents compared to having to constantly buy
the latest fashion trends for their children. Keeps familiarity and unity amongst students.
