1.Mystery/Suspense:
Shown when D'Artagnan was confused why Aramis told Fouquet to borrow money from the
state for the king's party.
When Aramis and Philippe were back at the king's room and heard footsteps in the corridor.
2. Appearance VS. Realty:
Aramis didn't want to throw the king's party at Vaux to help Fouquet please the king, but
because he had installed the mechanism he used in his plan to switch the twins in the king's
room when overseeing the renovations. Aramis appeared as if helping Fouquet while in
reality he was only doing it for his plan to work.
3.Deception:
Aramis lied to D'Artagnan about the king being ill so that he doesn't enter the room and
suspect something because no one knew the king better than him so he would figure out it
was Philippe, not Louis right away.
NOTE: Appearance vs reality is a theme which is used when a situation or person appear
as something while in reality it's/they're something else.

13-What excuse did Aramis tell to D’artagnan for not seeing the king?
He told him that he won’t be able to see the king, he had trouble sleeping last night and he is very
tired, He asked not to be disturbed.
14- What was D’artagnan reaction when he read the paper?
He was surprised because he read “Set Free”, it means not to arrest Fouquet, and he thought that
Aramis is behind all of this.

Fouquet said this to D’artagnan because of the king’s decision to arrest him when Colbert show him
receipts that Fouquet stole money from the state. He said that Aramis was going to back him up but
he couldn’t so he decided to borrow and had an intention of paying it back.
2. “Monsieur Fouquet…………………………………..Until I come back”
D’artagnan said this to Fouquet about the truth that he said, he was going to Aramis’s room to see if
Fouquet is telling the truth.
3. “I Understand”
Fouquet replied this to D’artagnan’s words when he told him that he will stay outside this night and
arrest him in the morning as the king says the final decision.
4. “He is coming to see you about Fouquet”
Aramis said this to Philippe about D’artagnan, he was coming to see the king about the arrest
decision.
5. “Let me take care of it”
Aramis said this to Philippe when D’artagnan was coming to see him about the arrest decision, Aramis
said that he will handle this because it is so soon for D’artagnan to see Philippe, he might suspect
something if Philippe talked.
