Assalamu Alaikum Judges,

Thank you for taking the time to view my presentation and allowing me the opportunity

to speak about a topic that I care so much about. My name is Fadumo Hassan and my senior

project is about the importance of caring for yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Throughout my life, I've observed my mother putting everyone else before herself and it

has always been something that fascinated me. Seeing her live her life in such a selfless manner

taught me the value of caring for others as well as yourself and the different methods of self-care.

Because of this, I would like to major in neuroscience and it is also the reason that I have made

self-care the topic of my senior project. I became determined to help immigrant mothers learn

how to implement “selfishness” and self-care into their lives by hosting a seminar that includes

activities that will educate them on self-care habits that can be incorporated into their schedules.

This project was definitely a challenge, but I learned a lot of necessary skills throughout

the process. A notable challenge that I had was figuring out how I can specify my topic as well

as find my demographic. I solved this issue by researching the broader topic and then with my

research I was able to identify what my goal was. I also learned about how to collect data and

analyze my results. A skill like this will definitely help me in my future career, Inshallah.
