AGENDA |
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

▪ Introductions ▪ Learn how we utilized CFD for passive design.

▪ Project Introduction ▪ Discover how we applied generative design.

▪ Learn how to apply generative design and how to

▪ CFD Analysis
identify a goal.
▪ Generative Design ▪ Learn about concepts and strategies of a
generative design process.

OUR DRIVE | GLOBALIZATION
▪ Technology and science have been a major driving force of
globalization, driving standards of living across the globe

URBANIZATION
▪ 2,5 billion people will move into urban centers in the next
30 years
▪ 86 million people in the US will move into urban centers in
that time period
▪ We will go from 28 to 43 mega cities by the year 2030

SUSTAINABILITY
▪ Cities consume 78% of global energy, and produce more
than 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions
▪ Addressing climate change requires reimagining the built
environment
▪ Support Global Sustainable Initiatives

CLIMATE STUDIES |
• Screened occupancy areas comfort cooling by ventilation in warm
ANNUAL AVG. TEMPURATURE & PERCIPITATION weather and can prevent insect problems

• Good natural ventilation can eliminate need for cooling windows must
be well shaded and oriented to prevailing breeze

• Long narrow building footprint can help maximize cross

ventilation in hot humid climate

• Light weight construction with operable walls and shaded outdoor areas

• High ceiling and tall operable windows protected by overhangs

• To facilitate cross ventilation, locate door and window openings on

PSYCHROMETRIC CHART opposite sides of the building with larger openings facing up winds
if possible.

• To maximize stack ventilation (even in low wind speeds) maximize

vertical ht. air inlet and outlet
ANNUAL PERCIPITATION
• Overhangs, Minimize west facing direct solar exposure to reduce heat
gains, scrim wall can provide relief to envelope.
