Factory Radio Removal


A vehicle without navigation is shown. Follow the same steps if FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2
vehicle is equipped with navigation.

1. Before proceeding, eject disc(s) from factory unit if present.

2. Set parking brake and disconnect negative battery cable to prevent


any electrical short.

3. Pry climate control trimpanel out to release six (6) plastic clips.
Disconnect harnesses and remove (Figures 1 & 2).

4. Place a towel on top of dash to protect finish. Pry around all edges Climate Control Trimpanel
of receiver trimpanel to release clips. Pull out panel. DO NOT
DISCONNECT wiring harness (airbag wiring). Place trimpanel on
top of dash (Figures 3 & 4).

5. Remove four (4) 10mm screws securing factory radio. Pull out
radio, disconnect and remove (Figures 5 & 6).

• Check to make sure the Crutchfield receiver wiring

Receiver Installation adaptor plugs into the vehicle receiver harness.


If the Crutchfield adaptor is incorrect, please call our
Technical Support Department at 1-800-955-9094.

A Standard DIN receiver is shown here in a vehicle


without navigation. If the vehicle is factory-equipped
with navigation, a mounting bracket must be fabricated
in order to install a Standard DIN receiver. A Double-
DIN receiver may also be installed in vehicles with or
without navigation by following these steps.

1. Prepare receiver for installation following instructions


supplied with the dash kit.

2. Make wiring connections following instructions


supplied with the receiver wiring adaptor received
from Crutchfield.

If bypassing the factory-equipped amplifier:


Disconnect the wiring harnesses on the right side or
in the lower receiver cavity. These lead to the
amplifier. Plug the harnesses from the Crutchfield
wiring adaptor into these harnesses to bypass the Connects to Wiring Adaptor
amp. to Bypass Amplifier
3. Hold receiver assembly near dash. Connect receiver
wiring adaptor to vehicle harness. Plug antenna
lead into rear of receiver.

4. Slide assembly into dash and secure with screws


previously removed.

5. Test receiver operation and reassemble dash by


reversing removal steps.

! IMPORTANT
No speaker wiring adaptor is available at this time from FIGURE 1
Crutchfield for this speaker location in vehicles equipped
with standard speakers. It will be necessary to splice wires
in order to install an aftermarket speaker.

1. Pry up speaker grille from the rear edge as


shown to release two (2) clips and remove
(Figure 1). Speaker Grille
2. Remove two (2) 10mm bolts securing speaker.
Pull out speaker, disconnect and remove
(Figure 2).

3. If Equipped with JBL Speakers:


Connect speaker wiring adaptor of
replacement speaker to vehicle speaker
harness.
If equipped with Standard Speakers: FIGURE 2
Make wiring connections following instructions
on page 12. Return to this page to complete
installation.

4. Secure speaker to location with screws


previously removed.

5. Test speaker operation and reinstall speaker


grille.

1. Pry off "sail" panel starting at top edge


(Figure 1).

2. Pry off screw cover just under "sail" panel and
remove one (1) phillips screw (Figure 2).

3. Hold door release handle open and pry out


door release trim. Remove one (1) exposed
phillips screw (Figure 3).

4. Pry up rubber mat inside door pull cup and

5. Place hand in door pull cup. Lift pull cup/
power switch panel. Disconnect harnesses to
remove (Figure 6). "Sail" Panel

6. Remove one (1) phillips screw exposed by removing switch panel
(Figure 7). FIGURE 7

7. Remove two (2) phillips screws along bottom edge of door panel
(Figure 8).

8. Pry out bottom and sides of door panel to release clips. Lift panel, hold
out to disconnect door release and door lock cables. Remove door
panel (Figure 9).

9. Remove four (4) phillips screws securing speaker. Pull out speaker,
disconnect and remove (Figures 10 & 11).

10. Connect speaker wiring adaptor of replacement speaker to vehicle


speaker harness. Secure speaker with screws previously removed.

11. Test speaker operation and reinstall door panel by reversing removal
steps.

! IMPORTANT
No speaker adaptor bracket is available at this time from Crutchfield for this speaker FIGURE 1
location. It will be necessary to fabricate a speaker mounting bracket in order to install
an aftermarket speaker.
It is possible that the replacement speakers do not have screws supplied. It may be
necessary to acquire mounting hardware.

1. Push back and lift bottom of rear seat cushion to remove (Figure 1).

2. Remove one (1) 12mm bolt from bottom of both seat bolsters. Lift
bolsters and remove (Figures 2 & 3).

3. Fold down seat backs. Release four (4) retaining clips on trunk
opening trim by turning 1/4 turn. Remove three (3) center pin FIGURE 2
retaining clips from same trim by pushing in center pin, then prying
out clip (Figures 4a & 4b).

4. If equipped, pry open SRS airbag FIGURE 5


screw cover on both rear pillars from
front edges. Remove one (1) exposed FIGURE 4a Retaining Clips (4)
10mm screw from each pillar (Figure 5).

5. Pull rubber door gasket away from pillars. Pry out

and remove (Figure 6).

6. Sunscreen/Rear Portion of Deck Removal: If Airbag Screw Cover is not

Method B: Pry up rear sunscreen assembly starting about 12” from


each end, then work out of rear deck by lifting (Figures 7, 8 & 9). FIGURE 9

7. Remove two (2) 10mm bolts (one on each side) from bracket exposed by
removal of sunscreen (Figure 10). FIGURE 10

8. Lift front edge of rear deck panel to release two (2) plastic clips.
Disconnect brake light wiring harness if equipped, and allow panel to hang
(Figure 11).

9. Remove rubber mat around speaker and remove four (4) phillips/10mm
screws securing speaker. Pull out speaker, disconnect and remove 10mm Bolt
(Figure 12).

10. Fabricate a speaker mounting bracket and secure speaker to bracket.

11. Connect speaker wiring adaptor of replacement speaker to vehicle


speaker harness. Secure speaker/bracket assembly with screws
previously removed. FIGURE 12

12. Test speaker operation and reassemble rear of vehicle by reversing


removal steps.

4. Pull rubber door gasket away from both rear

5. Lift rear deck panel and pull toward front of

8. Connect speaker wiring adaptor of replacement


speaker to vehicle speaker harness. Secure
speaker/bracket assembly to location.

9. Test speaker operation and reassemble rear of


vehicle by reversing disassembly steps.

! SAFETY CHECK
Make sure seats and seat belts are secured to
manufacturer’s specifications.
Check brake light connection and test operation.

Wire Splicing Guide These methods can be used to make wiring connections if no receiver or speaker wiring adaptor is available.
Wire color information (if available) can be found on the next page.

Factory harness is removed. Save New speaker wires are spliced into
