Telling The Time!
Telling The Time!
the Time!
with Miss Diana (and the bird).
Rule 1:
"Minutes" and then "Hours".
Today, we'll learn different ways of telling the time. For now, just
remember that English people firstly tell 'minutes', and then the
'hours'.
Rule 2 (1):
For minutes 1-30 we use PAST after the minutes.
Rule 2 (2):
For minutes 31-59 we use TO after the minutes.
Rule 3:
15 minutes past = (a) quarter past
15 minutes to = (a) quarter to
30 minutes past = half past
7:15 - It's (a) quarter past seven
12:45 - It's (a) quarter to one
3:30 - It's half past three
Rule 4:
NO minutes = o'clock
10:00 - It's ten o'clock
5:00 - It's five o'clock
1:00 - It's one o'clock
Rule 5:
Asking for the Time.
What time is it?
What is the time?
What time...?
When...?
What time does the flight to New York leave?
When does the bus arrive from London?
When does the concert begin?
BUT!!!
19:35 = Seven thirty five p.m.
07:09 = Seven oh nine a.m.
There are a bunch of other, simpler, ways 07:00 = “seven o’clock on the dot”,
of telling the time that do not follow these “seven o’clock sharp” or “exactly seven
Rules. But you don't need to know them o’clock”
now~
00:00 and 12:00 = “at midnight” and “at
midday/ at noon”
Thank You!
Keep calm and tell the time.
