What’s there at the University of Antioquia?
There is a main campus in Medellín. There are two other satellite
campuses in Medellín, one in Robledo and one in Guayabal. There are other headquarters in the city, which are relique buildings like the Medicine Faculty or the Paraninph downtown. The Health Sciences faculties are nearby so there isn’t need for transportation if you go from the main campus. There is an extension building, a university hospital and a university clinic for the medicine and nursing students to practice. There are five productive farms for the students of animal science and veterinary medicine to practice. There are also 12 satellite headquarters in the nine regions of Antioquia. There is a very innovative campus in Caucasia. There are beautiful campuses in Apartadó and Carepa. There is an ugly campus in Turbo. There are huge campuses in Puerto Berrío and El Carmen de Viboral.
There is a very complete central library and 20 other libraries and
document centers. There is a huge square across from the library. It’s called Barrientos Square. There are lots of places in Barrientos Square like copy centers, cafeterias, restaurants, paper shops, miscellaneous stores, ice cream parlors and a pastry shop that students love. There is a famous water fountain with a very important sculpture by Rodrigo Arenas Betancur. There is a museum, the MUUA, which is the most complete museum in Medellín. There is also an open space called “The Airport” where students have hammocks and weed everywhere. There are many sports areas at the main campus. There is a big stadium with a running track. There is a new coliseum. There are tennis courts. There is a soccer field. There is an Olympic swimming pool. And there are teams for many sports such as hockey, rugby, martial arts, soccer and American football.
