questions. You will be graded according to the rubric below.

1. In your opinion, which of the texts is an academic text? (1 sentence)

In my opinion, the academic text among the selection is “Why Do They Say That
Our English Is Bad?”.

2. Why did you consider it/ them an academic text? (3 or more sentences)

I consider the text an academic text as it is focused on how there are still errors in
writing and in speaking English of Filipino students. Additionally, the text is formal and
contain words and terms specific to the topic. The text informs the audience about the
hindrance on the English proficiency of Filipino students.

3. Distinguish the four texts and differentiate it with one another. (5 or more
sentences)

Text A is an academic text as it talks about the errors in writing and in speaking
English of Filipino students. It uses formal words, is organized in a specific way, and has
a clear structure. Text B talks about the role of English in a relationship with a person, it
is more of a narrative text. Text C is a letter congratulation letter. Finally, text D is
government related and is not academic. Each of the text have different structure and
organizations.
