Section 1: Locating Area Hotspots with APPs

1. Download WiFi Map or Hotspot Finder app.

2. Use the app to find and locate the available hotspot nearby your location.

3. What information the app can provide about the available hotspot?

It shows the type of business with a standard symbol (restaurant/ hospital/coffee

shop) which contains the particular hotspot and its respective addresses. It
shows the SSID name and if the wifi connection requires authentication. It also
shows the distance from the current location to the respective hotspot.

 Section 2: Locating Area Hotspots with Bell

1. Open a new tab on your Web browser that is still open from the previous project
and go to https://www3.bellmts.ca/mts/services/wifi+hotspot+locator.

2. Instead of allowing you to click on a map, the default search asks you to enter a
location as the focal point of the search. Enter an address as the starting point.

3. Compare your results with the results you received using Hotspot- Locations.

Wifimap App shows all available hotspot locations nearby along with real time
updates of newer hotspots coming in and the web browser shows hotspot
connections which have Bell as the ISP respectively, which is quite far away
compared to the results on Wifimap app.

4. Between Hotspot- Locations and Bell, which tool has more hotspots listed?
Why is there a difference?

The W-Fi map app has more hotspot locations listed as it shows all available
hotspots regardless of the respective ISP in the area, while the web browser
shows the connection info relative to the respective ISP Bell.

5. Now compare the options available on Bell with those available on Hotspot-
Locations. Which are more comprehensive?

WiFi Map offers many connectivity options, it can be very useful in terms of
mobility for people who want to connect to any hotspot for a temporary period
of time. A web browser can be useful for users who are just trying to connect to
Bell connections.

6. How would you rate Bell in terms of ease of use, accuracy, options, etc.? Which
would you recommend to another wireless user?

Bell contains all basic information with regards to the distance of where the next
available hotspot is. It's easy to use and the information looks accurate. I would
recommend Bell as an option for users who are looking for a permanent solution
whereas the app can be used for casual hotspot connectivity for a temporary
period of time.

Section 3: Installing Network Meter Tool

Switch between Transfer and Speed options and monitor the results.

 1. Note that it gives detailed information about your wireless network. Which
details do you find helpful?

It is a good wireless network monitoring tool that shows detailed data connection
information and speed respectively as shown in the image attached above. This
application provides a clear understanding of real-time waveform fluctuations.
