MEDICINE DISPENSER FOR ELDERLY

CONCEPT:

To design a cheap & ergonomic medicine dispenser for elderly and specially-abled people with an
automatic feedback on mobile devices.

BACKGROUND:

Most of us have experienced living with our grandparents or someone who is in need of intensive
care once in a life time. Taking due care of them is our
responsibility and as a part of that it is important to
ensure that they go through their daily regular life
with ease and minimal effort. But there are times
when we cannot be always around them, and then at
those times thinking and ensuring about their well-
being and health takes up a major part of our time.

Especially in the current scenario, when the pandemic

is at its full potential we need to safeguard our loved
ones, and in case we our self fall sick then who will
take care of their medical needs like taking medicines
on time? For such situations I have come up with a
simple device that dispenses the correct medicine as
per the time of the day, and sends an alert to the
mobile device of the patient and their caregivers if the
medicines are taken or not within that time period.

MEDICINE DISPENSER – GOL-e

DESIGN STUDY:

The product is 10x10.5x10 cm in size which makes it quite

portable with minimum to no complicated or moving parts.

Side View
The dispenser has 3 section at the top marked with
engraved text and transparent lid, where the medicine for
morning, afternoon & night are pre fed according to the
prescription, once the lids are closed the medicine are in a
Receiving the medicine
sterile and sealed container, which has a dropping slant from the storage
into the rotor, the patient turns the knob of the rotor 120 deg. Where it locks and the medicine for the time of
the day falls into the rotor slot (as shown in the figure).

On further movement of the rotor the medicine due to the design

of the rotor and dispenser body falls out into the exit path(as shown
in figure) where again it slides into the hands of the patient due to
the slant in the surface.

If the patient forgets to take medicine (suppose morning medicine

needs to be taken between 7 am to 9 am), the sensor at the back of
the rotor senses no motion so it sends a reminder to the caregiver
as well as the patient to take their medicine.

The equipment can be 3D printed or molded easily, since not many Dropping the medicine
moving parts are there; this results in easy assembly of the product into the receiving area
as well.
