CHAPTER 4:
STRATEGIES FOR SOLVING
EXPONENTIAL AND EXPONENTIAL AND LOGARITHMIC
LOGARITHMIC EQUATIONS EQUATION
1. Rewrite the original equation in a
form that allows the use of the
Recall Exponential Properties One – to One Properties of
exponential or logarithmic
functions.
2. Rewrite an exponential equation
in logarithmic form and apply the
Inverse Property of logarithmic
function.
3. Rewrite a logarithmic equation in
exponential form and apply the
Inverse Property of exponential
function.
Example:
1. e-x2 = e-3x- 4

PROGRESSION
Arithmetic Progression
An Arithmetic progression is a
sequence in which each term after the first is
obtained by adding the same fixed number,
called the common difference, to the
preceding term.

Exercises No.16:
1. Find the 16th term of the geometric
progression 2, 6, 8, . . .
2. Find the 9th term of the geometric
progression 72, -12, 2, . . .
3. The first term of a geometric
progression is 375 and the fourth
term is 192. Find the common ratio.
4. There are 20 geometric means
between 512 and 36. Find the
common ratio.
5. The first term of a geometric
progression is 256 and the last term
is 6, 561. If the sum of all the terms is
19, 171 find the number of terms.
6. Find the sum of the first 10 terms of
the geometric progression 2, 4, 8, 16,
….
7. There are 4 geometric means
between 3 and 729. Find the fourth
term of the geometric progression
8. The sum of the term in geometric
progression is 1820. How many
terms are there if the first term is 5,
the second term is 15 and the third
term is 45?
9. The fourth term of geometric
progression is 216, and the 6th term
is 1944, find the 8th term.
10. A body dropped from a height fall
16m, during the first second, 48m, in
the next second; 144m on the third
second and so on. Find how far the
body falls during the 7th second.
